Manjiri Asnare Kelkar is among the outstanding vocalists of the current generation. She has inherited the rich tradition of the Jaipur Atrauli Gharana from Pandit Kanetkar. Today Manjiri Asnare is among the prominent exponents of the Tappa genre, marked by its energetic Taan and uneven rhythmic accent. Tappa gayaki also inculcates ornamentations such as jamjama, gitakari, khatka, murki and harkat.
Here we share with you Manjiri Asnare's rendering of Kafi Tappa "Re Bari Daana Jhuke" in Addha Taal - a 16 beat cycle - featured in her Navras Records album "Rasamanjari" (NRCD 0155) also comprising of Ragas Jaunpuri and Ajad Hindol from a concert presented by Karnataka Sangh, Mumbai, India in August 1998. She is accompanied by her father Pandit Anand Asnare on Tabla and Shri Sudhir Nayak on Harmonium.
This album along with the entire Navras Catalogue is now part of Sony Music India Catalogue.
