Hi, I just started watching your videos. It’s nice to see a mother just taking time for herself and sharing her love of plants! Plants are so therapeutic and I hope I can do the same when my husband and I start having kids. I heard you live in Missouri. Do you do any special treatment to your plants in the winder? We might be moving from Southern California to Washington state next year and I’m wondering what people do with their plants in the winder time.
@GrowingRoots
@GrowingRoots 4 года назад
Hey Kelsey - thank you! Honestly, my plants are my therapy in so many ways - they truly make a space feel more comfortable! As for my channel - it is 100% for me! Becoming a mother changes your identity, and for years I was feeling like I lost "Angela." Which is not okay! Forcing myself to set aside time to make/edit videos has really helped with my lack of self-care time. It is really SO IMPORTANT! Please stay connected and let me be a resource for you when you are ready to take the dive into parenthood - I love all aspects of it and love helping others enjoy the experience too! Now, for winter? All of my plants come inside - yikes - and I cluster most of them under grow lights. No fertilizer, really watch the watering (less, usually), and grow lights. Keeping them healthy, loved, and less-stressed in their dormant cycles really helps with an early (and strong) spring growth season! I also do a lot of late winter propagating - just before the spring growth kicks in (Jan/Feb) so that I have lots of new plants to share once the growth kicks off!

I can totally believe it! Thank you for making your channel. I know it has help you, but it is also helping people like me get into plants and feel connected to others who love plants! I’ll have to look for an extra room when house hunting just for my plants in the winter 😆

This was such a wonderful video to watch, thank you! Since you seem a LOT more experienced with propagating these beauties, I'd like to ask you a question: Can I cut off like two leaves of each of my pothos (I have a golden, neon and a manjula) and put all of them in the same nursery pot in order to get a "mixed" plant? Love from Germany!
@GrowingRoots
@GrowingRoots 3 года назад
Glad you enjoyed it! YES! Combine, combine, combine! I *love* making new arrangements with my plants and am currently propagating heartleaf and lemon lime philodendrons to mix in the same pot - I thought the contrast would be neat, much like the combination of golden, neon, and manjula pothos! I say "Go for it!" and let me know how it turns out! They are require/tolerate similar watering and light conditions so you shouldn't run into any problems. Good luck!

are manjula slow grower? can i apply neem oil for pesticide to avoid pests and root rot.
@GrowingRoots
@GrowingRoots 3 года назад
Hey! Manjulas were pretty slow growers for me, until I learned what conditions they liked! I feel like once you establish a good watering scheduled and find a place with adequate lighting, your Manjula's growth should pick up! Yes, I used neem oil as a preventative measure to keep pests at bay, but I'm not sure it does much for root rot. Just make sure you let the plant dry out pretty well before watering again and you shouldn't have any root issues!
@wilsonfloresca3355
@wilsonfloresca3355 3 года назад
@@GrowingRoots What should if there's a root rot already ? root rot occur when over watering right?
@GrowingRoots
@GrowingRoots 3 года назад
Yes, overwatering is soften the culprit for root rot. Your soil might also be too heavy - not allow enough drainage and just retaining more water than the roots can soak up. There isn't too much you can do, except let the plant dry out almost completely before watering it again. You could always repot the plant, in new soil with better drainage. I add perlite and/or some cactus mix to most of my indoor plants soil - both of those help with drainage. Also, keep in mind we all have had plants with root rot. It just happens! If you can't save this one, it just means you get to go plant shopping and try again! 😅💚
@wilsonfloresca3355
@wilsonfloresca3355 3 года назад
@@GrowingRoots thankyou so much 😊 btw neem oil is the safest pesticide am i right? and i need to repot my manjula every 1 to 2 years?
@GrowingRoots
@GrowingRoots 3 года назад
Sorry for the late reply! Yes, neem oil is 100% organic so SUPER safe as a pesticide! Can't go wrong! And yes, repotting your plants every 1-2 years is a good practice for two reasons: 1. You can check root growth and move up a pot size if needed, and 2. Plants consume the vitamins and minerals in the soil every day, so after time, the soil becomes void of esential nutrients! New, fresh soil will help your plant keep growing well! 💚

@GrowingRoots
@GrowingRoots 4 года назад
Great questions! It can take about 6 weeks to water propagate roots that are 2 inches in length. Once they are about that long, that's when I transfer to soil. It seems like they adjust better to the soil when they are about 2 inches in length, although I've had success when they are shorter (and my patience is wearing LOL)
@Verenisf
@Verenisf 3 года назад
How did you transfer from water to soil?
@GrowingRoots
@GrowingRoots 3 года назад
Hey Verenis! It's so easy! I just wait for the roots to become about 2 inches long and then plop them in soil. Give them a nice thorough watering and let it dry out quite a bit before the next watering. They are usually very forgiving when making the big move!

It seems like every time I water my manjula I get a lot of brown spots on the white leaves. Any tips??
@GrowingRoots
@GrowingRoots 4 года назад
Hi Amber! As with most issues, it could either be related to your watering habits or light issues. *Is it a water issue?* I've found that most pothos don't like wet feet and would rather be too dry than too wet. When its roots stay wetter than they like, *the white patches in the leaves may develop brown spots*. Letting your plant go a bit longer between waterings (and/or changing your soil to something with better drainage) can help prevent future brown spots from appearing. *Is it a light issue?* Intense light - natural or artificial - can cause unsightly burning and brown patches in the leaves, *especially on the white variegation*. If this is the case, moving your manjula a bit farther back from the light source may help prevent future brown spots. Or put a sheer curtain between it and the window to help diffuse the light! Whatever it takes!!! What do you think? Do either of those things stand out to you as the potential problem?

Manjula is such a beautiful plant! I hope I can grow mine like that ❤️ I bought mine the other day with only 2 leaves and 2 growths that are still pushing through. Yesterday, I noticed the 2 leaves starts to droop :( I haven't watered it yet as the soil is still wet. It is placed near the window with filtered sunlight. What should I do for it to look happy?
@GrowingRoots
@GrowingRoots 4 года назад
Hi Karina! I have faith in you - your plant will thrive! What kind of soil is it in? Is it a well-draining soil or a 'heavy' soil? I have noticed that my Manjula likes a well-draining soil (50% cactus mix) and a thorough watering once a week. These roots do not like to sit in water. Might your soil be an issue? Or is the pot a big one? Perhaps too big for this little grower?
@karinajavier574
@karinajavier574 4 года назад
@@GrowingRoots Thanks for replying! So, I took the plant out from its nursery pot to change the soil, but it turned out the manjula I bought has no roots yet 😭 I was scammed. Oh I am so glad you looked at the roots! I usually do that in the store before I buy, just to know what I am getting into. I usually prefer water propagation. YES! I was just thinking this the other day. The last round of watering I did was a little too much, too close in frequency, and it made a few leaves a little whilty. They are so thin and fragile to begin with, that they get a bit dramatic in over/under watering. Something to be mindful of!

First of all,YOU HAVE BEAUTIFUL TEETH, and COMPLEXTION. Your dog is BEAUTIFUL especially the color. I just purchased a small Manujula and I am crazy about "her" she's a baby 2-3 in. in hight and about the same in overall size... just a baby of the one you are showing. Can you show how to unload a BIG potted green one that probably needs to climb up something . I have already trimmed it down and those clippings are water bound and doing quite nicely. If I move that one ( all green) that is by a window getting good lighting, away from there will the leaves turn white ? I have spotted about 2 with some white, and thats about all. I have had this plant for aleast 5 years and it's beautiful. GREAT VIDEO and INFORMATION . HAVE A BLESSED DAY !

Will a manjula pothos mature like other pothos and become huge.and also what size pot is best for this plant.what is the best organic fertiler for this plant.how to make this manjula pothos as large as possible. Madhav! I just saw this comment from you too! Yes - you should be able to keep it in quite a bit of light, just make sure that we are watering it enough to keep it strong and healthy! If it's midday light is too strong/hot, then you could absolutely move it for a few hours. My manjulas are NOT sensitive to being moved around.
@GrowingRoots
@GrowingRoots 4 года назад
Posted too fast! I like my soil to be well-draining soil, but you do need to water a bit more often that way, especially if the plant is in a lot of sun. You can use growth promoters, although I do not, and it has grown well. It did take over a year for my plant to really pick up speed in it's growth though, so just be aware that yours may take some time too if it is a young plant. Keep the questions coming! I'll be more attentive to comments - I want to help you!
