36:32 The moment the instinct to criticize is transmuted into the instinct to help, we are beginning to move onto a positive foundation. Anything that deserves criticism needs help. As long as we approach it on the level of criticism we will not help. Some people of course insist that criticism is a help but unless it is a essentially constructive approach, unless this criticism is backed by a tremendous depth of understanding and a practical solution to the problem it merely compounds the dilemma and to criticize things for which we have no solution can not be regarded as a good vocational activity.

Can't get enough. What a view of the universe and the experience in it. How well put the messages. M. P. Hall came out of nowhere for me. Been drilling into Jung, Campbell, McKenna and Alan Watts before.

I love you Manly P, but I gotta say ...if understanding is arrived at by way of cynicism, then cynicism too has its virtue. In fact, it seems like a truer definition of the word "optimism" is "the ability to see pessimism optimistically". I'm not recommending that anyone set-up camp and get comfy in a life of constant complaining, but teaching our words to tell the bare-naked accountable truth of EXACTLY who we are is a handy introspective step toward honest personal growth, and if "who we are" is too much dictated by our modern plastic age, well, complaining about it can very likely help, as long as the criticism is directed ultimately at the cherished child in the mirror. Just like the birds and the bugs and the beasts, we grow all our lives, and if we aren't responsible for our own growth, we leave it to nature to hold us responsible, and it seems to me that modern human nature is anything but natural, and so she is a cruel teacher well-worthy of our critical consideration. Confession is good for the soul because all that needs rebuilding must first be torn down. ...take me for example; I stopped the video 24 minutes in just to express my pro-pessimism perspective, this despite knowing full well that Manly P will thoroughly cover this same ground if I just continue listening. May the Force be with me.
