In this video we'll be restoring a very rough Mannlicher M1888/90 that I got off Royal Tiger Imports. This was easily the most worn down/beat up gun I've restored. It ended up going very well and came out amazing. You'll get to see all the steps in this restoration video and all the different processes I use. Hope y'all enjoy! If you want to stay up to date on my future projects and other stuff like that, follow me on Instagram @surplus_restoration

Astonishing you dont have more subs. Well, one gun channel to another, solid sub from me! This turned out way better than I was expecting. Wood has issues but looks good, way better than I could do. Bluing it was definitely a good call! Looks great.

Because most people break shit, never interested in fixing things. Even many of the most popular channels couldn't put the effort in to build or fix.

Outstanding job, it came out better than expected. You are doing great work keep it up. Just some tips to help you out: I use brake cleaner to clear out all the old oil, cosmoline, dirt, and grime. I also use 91% alcohol with an old toothbrush and use it like your goo gone alcohol is a lot cheaper. Try chucking the screws in a drill when your gonna sand them save lots of time. Plus, if they are beat up you can file them using the drill and recut the slot. As for the bore I use a piece of a copper pot scrubber wrapped around an old bore brush, works great. For the rust on the parts you are going to reblue. I use a gel from Rustoleum it's called Rust Dissolver. I just spray them, leave it on for 30 minutes to an hour and poof the rust is all gone. Just some helpful tips from one restorer to another. Have fun and keep up the good work.

Thats a very good job you did with that rifle. You can buy stocks that are not broke on line.

Great work on the rifle I hope you get some more subs! I picked up one of their $99 C-Grades and it was in really good shape minus missing the safety, and the bore could be better. Was able to source a safety from numrich for like $15 and got the bore cleaned up. Strong rifling but also corrosion that looks to be a bit worse than typical frosting so who knows how it'll shoot. Just got it put back together yesterday and my buddy at my local shop has some 8x50r I'm going to pick up. Wish me luck lol

Nice job, I bought one 15 years ago for 50$ that came from an old stock in Chili, I found out that there were two different sights. One in Austrian steps (about 74 cm) and an 100 meter step sight. The Austrian steps sight goes up to 25 and I believe the 100 meter sight to step 16. For most European countries this is important as the 25 step sight is free permit black powder only and the meter sight not as that one was proved for a nitro mixture. The bore was pretty good, but it is still not an accurate rifle.

Nice job. Have you considered reinforcing the break in the stock? One way to do that would be to drill 1/4 inch holes from the receiver side of the stock across the break. Epoxy 1/4 inch threaded steel rod into the holes. After it is dry trim the rod flush. This repair would not be visable when the rifle is assembled.

I considered that, well I thought about it at least but don't have any experience doing so. Would of been a good idea to go ahead and do though,

If your going to shoot that make sure to use a reduced charge 8x50 those were never meant for smokeless powder.

The problem with RTI guns is they ship worn out rifles with terrible or non existent rifling, what is their to restore at that point? Or is that just a rumor?
@Surplus_Restoration
@Surplus_Restoration 3 месяца назад
So having restored over 30 of their guns yes you can def get some with worn out bores, however, a lot of their bigger supply stuff you can select overall condition which pretty much guarantees a good bore. I think I’ve only received 2 guns that have had terrible rifling but that was because I chose a C grade or didn’t choose the overall condition, one was a P14 which I just bought a new barrel for and still was overall cheaper than what other sites would ask for. RTI has been amazing for me

Great presentation and love the grading system....not something I've seen anyone do in a video. Given the attention to detail put into this, you've got to be an engineer, right?

Switch to Brownell’s Acraglass for your wood repairs. Use files and not sandpaper on wood. Otherwise I really enjoyed your video

What kind of wood glue you used for the stock? And how is the bore/rifling in it?

I used tightbond professional strength, and really really good, took quite a while to clean out and a lot of polishing, but it came out great, maybe just some very mild frosting but superb for it’s age
