Manoj Bajpayee, hats off to you! The way you put forth your point of view on cinema, very classy.. cinema is a medium to convey a story, the viewer can have their own judgement on the cinema but neither can dictate terms - the maker cannot force people to watch or like his/her cinema; and the viewer cannot force makers to cater to their sensibilities.. isn’t that the beauty of this medium? Same movie, one person loves another hates and a third doesn’t care!

Irfan khan, Neseerudin Shah and Manoj Bajpai. Order keeps changing but these 3 have remained my top favourites. Understated, toned down acting is what cinema means to me.

Such a good and informative interview. Both parties putting their opinions and not getting angry or irritated... agree to disagree is the tenet of freedom. Can't wait to watch such the fable... Now I am so curious

What a line 'agar cinema kuch badal sakta' this even after winning three National Film Awards, six Filmfare Awards, and two Asia Pacific Screen Awards! Cinema reflects society and sparks conversations, shaping perceptions and promoting empathy. It also influences other filmmakers and the direction of future films. However, its impact on societal change depends on how audiences engage with the content and how filmmakers use their platform. Example: Dangal was based on a real-life incident, making its impact even more profound. Through its portrayal of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters, the film ignited discussions about gender equality and empowerment. There are many such examples about how cinema can leverage real stories to drive societal change by inspiring audiences to challenge traditional norms and support progress.

"And woh chaos aur anxiety......" (16:05) Ah, I so wish that had gotten to complete this follow-up question xD I am not sure if I believe that things stop after the conversations(that cinema starts), but I am sure that there are a lot more people like me who feel a sense of comfort and relief knowing that there's someone who's pointing out the problematic stuff. It would be way too scary if it weren't for voices like you. Thank you!

It might not change the world but it definitely has power to change someone's world. Okay cliched but truth. Why these artists being so tone deaf towards the fact that they actually have power to influence people and that means definitely cinema has power to "change the world". There actually are plenty of positive and negative examples cinema having impact. Weather it be helping in changing laws(Korean movie silenced) or some harassers saying they have learnt harassing women is cool from Bollywood movies. As an avid film watcher myself, I have been taught and made realized so many things through cinema. It definitely has made impact on so many things I see and feel in my real life. Also, Isn't cinema an art form? Aren't art forms always have been the ways for people voicing their voices, criticising social inequality and helping people to arise their conscience? Hasn't cinema always been a best and effective way to spread awareness? Why someone so accomplished and talented like Manoj Bajpayee constantly undermining his art and, power and platform as an artist is depressing. No one is saying one should show only honky dory things in cinemas and should play ideal characters only, you can devour and prove yourself playing different characters. But, why to dismiss the whole form of cinema as an art, as a medium that actually has power to influence people. Why???? Why to reduce such a powerful medium like cinema like that? There is nothing in the world like cinema that people love and have easy access to. I love to watch, my mother and grand parents love to watch, the most common thing between us is we love cinema. Can we compare any other art form can have more chance to impact someone's life than cinema? Is there better way to enter in someone's life and mind than cinema? Then why oh why this defensiveness? If you wouldn't like to take any responsibility as an artist then that's fine, but don't dismiss cinema as a whole art form that has power to change people please. Change should not be a complete change but a little nudge, a little reminder, a little push also is a change isn't it? Because that can change and make total difference in bigger picture, and is enough so many times. Here, I love cinema and I took it personally haha. So I am venting out my general curiosity and feelings over every one who says "cinema ki taraha dekho" blah blah blah!! It just became a long comment, anyway! Also, Sucharita! if you happened to see this comment, I would like to say that I love your work. I love your way of seeing cinema, showing cinema, and demanding from cinema. One of your admirers ❤️🙏.

from where do you bring your morality, inspiration, negativity all depends upon you.. back then when cinema didn't exist, religious, philosophy books, cultural stories were the substitute.
