Today, we're continuing a multi-video journey on which we will be building historically accurate and authentic city designs in Manor lords, a highly anticipated city-building game! I will explain how the game works as I play and explain some historical details as we go!
Get a soldier into your game: www.nexusmods....
Manor Lords on Steam: store.steampow...
Manor Lords is a strategy game that allows you to experience the life of a medieval lord. Grow your starting village into a bustling city, manage resources and production chains, and expand your lands through conquest.
Inspired by the art and architecture of late 14th century Franconia, Manor Lords prioritizes historical accuracy wherever possible, using it to inform gameplay mechanics and visuals alike. Common medieval tropes are avoided in favor of historical accuracy, in order to make the world feel more authentic, colorful, and believable.

I really hope that, eventually, we will be seeing forests and rivers being very beneficial to the backyard improvements of our villages - they mattered a lot!

I read on Reddit that the limiting radius for farmhouses is not working properly. The dev is aware of the issue, but had not time to solve it yet. So don't sweat it too much, farmers will do an exodus to work on fields miles away.

The game just got a big update. Trade between regions is now possible,Archers are buffed, fix the over consumption of hale, and now their is a royal tax that must be paid or else the king will send his army composed of multiple lords. I think it is compatible with this save. Of course there is more to the update and I don’t know everything about it but this is already big.

Yes, gambesons require a household to be level 2 to equip. The game doesn't state it anywhere. But if you check the households' inventories, it's very clear that they only go to level 2.

I had a fun mental image of a lord sitting down trying to figure out the best allocation of labor while his knights try to get him to worry about the mass of bandits on the way.

My main problem right now is that if you did not chose and assemble your main army units from the start, when you get your first Retenue, you lose 1 unit slot. So you have to chose and assemble all 6 units from the start of a playtrough.

small jank tip: I build a city by the river yesterday, if you claim some more territory next to it you can start your settlement directly next to your existing town, spreading over the border so to speak

Do you think it would be possible to do a vocabulary list of the different types of villages (Rundling, Waldhufendorf, etc.)? I am fascinated by all the different types and their purposes, and would like to do more research, but I keep losing track of the names... 😅

It would be even better if he could make a page on the game wiki, with descriptions and images of each type. "Historic town plans of the Holy Roman Empire" or something like that.

I love how you use historic towns as blueprint for your in game settlements. Zittau is pretty interesting town. First I though that you were saying Zwittau, which is a town of a similar size close to where I live. It is also a bordertown close to the historical Bohemia / Moravia border. It was also considered part of Sudetenland, with considerable german speaking population living there. Maybe you could use it in the future, it has pretty interesting history as well. Oskar Schindler was born there.

One thing I've noticed is that with multiple wells they just seem to use one at random. I've seen families with a well next to their house walk all the way to the other side of the map to use the charcoal burner's well. The pathfinding definitely needs some work. Also, the mill efficiency is related to the trees around it, so if you chop the trees around it the efficiency will go up.

It seems that the work area for the farm houses currently doesn't work properly. As it works right now harvesting is shared for all farm houses in spite of your set work area. They'll return to their assigned area for ploughing and sowing though. At least thats what I observed in my playthroughs.

i played on a pretty easy difficulty where the baron was on the mode where he doesnt attack you and raiders came infrequently and he still brought a second army when i challenged him for one of his territories. I also waited out the timer a bit too long but either way i dont think atm difficulty actually affects that.

the baron attacking your land is either get paid off for losing a claim in exchange or fight to keep it for no profit, but if you attack by spending 1,000 of your 4,000 spare influence you can essentially extort money out of him to drop your claim on HIS land while going back to the borders that existed before, you get a payout for using an army that was just sitting around, works well if you have a large personal retinue and archers that can get a high kill to causality ratios so the payout is worth the 2-3 losses you might take maximum in village pop. It doesn't hurt as much if you have max pop or don't need all your villagers and can afford a few losses in exchange for him paying you large sums to peace you out when you attack him
@lupedro1431

When the baron wants to reclaim the land he sends to armies, regardless of what you do. Difficulty does not matter, either.

Yes, I'm not surprised the townsfolk are making short work of the new found supply of ale! - I called it in a comment on a prior video. Let us not forget that in the general time period covered by the game, ale was generally safer to drink than well water due to its slightly antiseptic qualities -> lower chance of stomach bugs and worse!

@@OneProudBavarian yeah maybe not but ultimately maybe you should because at the moment it is just empty land but if you had a village there you might rethink accepting a bribe. also you have to think about the fact that if you did give it up in the future in order to win the game you would have to take it back eventually.

I like that village by the Trade Road. But I'm kind of reminded of a sad bit of American history in a way. Where you have the early settlers kind of forming along various wagon trails logically for the same reason. Then the Railroads came, which often went by entirely different routes. And you'd have these otherwise prosperous villages and towns falter and fail as suddenly all the traffic goes in a completely different route. And it spurred a new era of towns being raised along the rail lines as depots and hubs. Then came the Highway Systems, where it all happened yet again with Roads being paved in often completely different places than the Railways leading to more abandoned towns. When you come across those old towns, some of them still alive (barely), others just completely abandoned... it's kind of a melancholy mood that hits you. Particularly if you learn any of the history of it and how it went from this big prosperous trade hub for nearby settlements and outward towards bigger hubs and now is like a village that literally has a population of 40 across 12 families and is forgotten by the world, if not totally abandoned as a ghost town.

It happened to many places along road routes when the freeways came along too. Route 66 being the most well known...
