I know it's 3 yrs later but your son made the ultimate sacrifice for his country. That's a rare and brave quality. Bless your family and from one military family to another, we thank him for his service and sacrifice
We few,We happy few,We band of brothers; For he today that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother. It has been fifty years now, and I can still see your faces.
I can’t remember where I put my keys five minutes ago but I remember their faces, their names, where they were from, what they planned to do when they got home. Some didn’t. God bless the veterans. Give them peace. Let them sleep at night. I can’t.
I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom. - Abraham Lincoln
Too right mate! I cannot believe Americans think they need MAGA…, it is an ever amazing nation of amazing people… that make a huge difference everyday… The planet sleeps in peace 🙏🙏🙏🌹🇺🇸🦅🇳🇿
I was never called on to serve; but I dearly respect and love those who did. We are blessed by those who have "stood on the wall". I truly pray that our wonderful country ALWAYS remains worthy all their sacrifice. God bless America, and, please, America, bless God.
As a Vietnam vet this song is very moving to me. I do not know why I came home and my dear friend did not.I still ponder on this 51 years later. I do look forward to the Mansion of the Lord.
Dear Mr. Wesson, I was a Soldier, Once and Young. Now I too am old and gray. I never forget that you and Canada are really our best ally and friend. Not our cousins the Brits, though we all respect and admire them too. But you are much closer by distance and in the heart. God Bless and Forever protect Canada. Your friends down under. And thank you for singing the American National Anthem when most Americans' can't during Hockey games. Sincerely, Respectfully and with Love, old Soldier.
As a soldier, I can't help but shed tears....to all my brothers and sisters who gave all....I honor you!!!!! To those who criticize and insult those of us who served...you need to thank us....for without us...you would have no freedom!!!!!! HOO-RAH!!!!!!
Now the government is asssaulting the constitution left and right. And you are protecting these criminals and in reality fighting for the Davos Jets set and Klaus Schwab N6zis. Bombing women and children as ruined the American name.

My husband was a young Army SF officer in IV Corps with the 5th SF down in the Delta. He never got over the loss of his CIDG & SF troopers. We watched this film together in our home. My tough guy shed tears. So I empathize with you when this music plays. When brave men shed tears of embattled memories, the circumstances must have been horrific. God be with you. Live well for those who cannot.
@ANtr431 When my dad arrived in Korea, they didn't recieve their cold weather gear until two weeks later. Several men in my dad's outfit suffered from frostbite and other cold weather injuries.
My Grandfather was in Korea. He was a signalman. Semaphore and Morse. Radio was compromised: NK knew English, but they didn't KNOW English. He spoke with flags. He passed in 2011. I thank your father for his service.
"They shall not grow old, as we who are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them."
I sing this, as a member of a Welsh Male Voice Choir. It is part of our permanent repertoire. We sing it, of course, with deep, true respect. And I have to control my tears until we finish.
My father and my uncles served in the second world war they have all passed and this song brought tears to my eyes, remembering my father sacrifices to keep us free. Miss you, dad. ❤️
To my Fallen Soldier PFC Dana Michael Rook,101st Airborne, Afghanistan. 24 year U.S. Army Veteran of Vietnam, Cold War and Desert Shield/Desert Storm. I’ve lost some good Soldiers and good friends. I will never forget them and the scarifies they made. HOOAH!
My Dad & Uncle were Pearl Harbor Survivors. They made the Navy their careers. They passed within 6 months of each other in 2007. This was sung at their funerals. It brings me to my knees. In 2016, I was alone in the shrine room on the Memorial, sobbing. A Marine guard came to Stan next to me. I will never forget these men.
Grandfather was on his way to pearl when it was hit, they turned the ship around. Ended up flying two tours as an upper ball turrent gunner on a b17. Got shot down over the Mediterranean and ended up serving two tours flying daylight bombing raids over germany.
To all our Service members who recently lost their lives in Afghanistan. "No more pleading, no more fight, no prayers pleading through the night...just Divine embrace and Eternal Light...in the Mansions of the Lord."
This song grows on you. Simple at first listening, it gets deeper with every play. I saw the movie when it came out. As a Vietnam Veteran I can relate to the sorrow of fallen comrades and their surviving loved ones. We maintained our honor and dignity through it all and I remain proud to this day. 4th Div
As a 56 year young farmer from northern Ohio, who never had to serve, with 3 uncles who served in WWII, with many friends who served in Korea and Vietnam, with a nephew who served in Iraq, with a brother=in-law who served all over the world as a Green Beret medic, with a son in the Army National Guard.......this song brings tears!!
To the memory of the 13 we lost in the last days of our involvement in Afghanistan; you will be missed. You were on a righteous mission and taken from us too soon....They paid the ultimate price to defend our nation and extend the reach of freedom beyond our shores. We cherish the legacy these warriors leave behind and commit our resources to support the wounded and bereaved.
But still lest not us forget those who sacrificed and served & their families. My father with his two brothers served, I can not remember a time that the family did not serve, this song brings sadness. I hope this song touches those who send into battle.
One day war will cease. When Christ returns and sets up his 1000 year reign on earth. He will rule with a rod of iron and there will be peace on earth...no one will study war then.
"People sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." George Orwell. God Bless All who serve their country with honor.
Actually that's Grenier's representation of an idea he ascribed to Orwell, but Orwell apparently got the idea from Kipling, as indicated in a 1942 piece by Orwell.
He makes wars to cease in all the world,He breaketh the bow and snappeth the spear asunder...I will be exalted on the earth for the Lord of Hosts is with us!
I lost such good friends at the height of their youth in Vietnam. And yet, by the luck of the draw, I have lived such a full life with a wife of 51 years and three grandchildren. I am so, so grateful to you--Fred Holjes, Chris Clearwaters, Joe Eubanks, Carter Howell, and others. Every time I listen to this, I tear up. How can 310 people be so hopelessly heartless as to give this video a "thumbs-down"? One thing is for sure; not one of them ever served.
I think of my uncle who fought in Vietnam and only told me only story of his service while in Vietnam, I was 14 when he told me he never said a word to a single soul till he told me in 2002 two weeks before he was called home and I think of him daily and it is a huge honor that he told me right before he died.
The Korean and Vietnam conflicto were never a declared war. What a big mistake and so many lives lost on both sides and for what. Please do not glorify wars.Work for Peace..
Susan, please do not tread inappropriately upon someone else's testament and account of what they held so sacred to share with a loved one in their final moments.
I'm an Aussie from British background.. and I made sure that when I was travelling thru the US I visited Arlington and the memorials of Washington DC.. a very moving experience...
Did the same on September 11 and 12 2003 on a visit from the UK - just a humbling experience. Walking the Wall I read the names of my generation (I'm now 69) who paid the ultimate price.
Went with my cousin ex US Army served in Vietnam, I served in Aden. The Wall is a truly humbling and moving experience. From Scotland, former Royal Marine.
Wonderful. I would love to go there but my traveling days are over. We had an American navy base 3 miles from my house. Burtonwood airbase...now mostly demolished. But the older generation now 80-90 years old remember those young men so far from home with great affection. In honour of them, I watch the Arlington memorial on RU-vid from time to time.
51 years ago I received an invitation from my Selective Service Board that said my service was needed. I answered the call and did my patriotic chore. I was proud to serve my nation which has given me such great opportunity. We Americans are truly blessed among nations. I am glad some young people feel that same way today. Semper Fi!
I was a war protester from late 1967 to late 1969. Still even though I knew the war was wrong, when called I did my duty. Still I did feel betrayed when I came home in 1971. Everyone including our government turned their backs on us. I have never forgotten how it felt. We were just doing out duty. USMC1969-1971
When I hear this song, Taps, Hymn to the Fallen, and Amazing Grace, I am always moved to tears. I was a Soldier, young and strong. Now I am old, fat and gray of hair. I miss my brothers and sisters in uniforms, especially those lost in battle in Iraq and died by suicide at home. I don't know if their sacrifice was worth it. Time will tell. But their families and friends never doubt for a second they would rather have them lived a long and good life. We hold no one responsible for our loss, our government who lied to us nor the enemy who took their lives. But when the drums of war start, stop and think. Is this really a just cause worthy of the most courageous among us? The American military will answer the call and fight. Just make sure we put our youth into noble causes because anything less robs them of life for nothing. Iraq Vet
Thank You, Dan-ke Schon. I was a "Weekend Warrior" but my basic training & AIT were my favorite parts of my 6 Year enlistment. You who were in the Fulltime Military for 1 or more Tours know the Reality. I received only a 6 month taste of Fulltime US Army.
I am not much for religion but my father was a veteran of three wars and on the day he died I prayed for his soul. It rained the night he died but after the rain the blanket of stars seemed to grant my wish that he would rest in a safe place. This song is a testament to his passing.
@@sgtwotitan4012 My brother was gay and was pretty much excluded from virtually every church. He did find one in Houston but his life was anything but normal. God wasn't on his side and he suffered greatly.

Just know that I'm out here and I care and I care about your brother's life as well.❤
My dad also fought in three wars. I miss him every day. Always spoke calmly of his time in peril; absolutely no atheists in fox holes! Only saw him cry once about it. Found a grave in the cemetery in Luxembourg of someone he was told by a friend at the end of the war was alive. The guy died the day after his friend had seen him on one of the last days of the war in Europe. Said he thought of him from time to time and wondered about his life and hoped he was happy. Now Daddy is gone too. All four of us kids served to honor him. One of my brothers even graduated from USMA. Dad was really proud of him!
@@lucycolson6162 My memory of him is mixed with good days and bad days. After WWII he got out and came back shortly thereafter to begin a career in aircraft maintenance TAC, SAC and PACAF IG. My siblings and I spent years having to deal with his dedication to the Air Force and dealing with alcoholism between our parents. My two brothers and sisters survived for a time but my younger brother passed from Aids. Dad passed in 1977 almost one year after retirement which was such a sad thing. Even today we are torn between the love for our now deceased parents. Except for my deceased brother we all succeeded in one way or another. Those days as a military brat and in my case a Viet Nam veteran still live with us. "Despite all our trials we are survivors and are still close.

Two military films really moved me. After 35 years in the military, Saving Private Ryan and We Were Soldiers are probably the most sad and realistic movies I've ever seen. RIP LT GEN Hal Moore and CMSgt Basil Plumley.

I did not know anyone who served and sacrificed at Normandy. I do know that I owe them my life and the lives of my children and grandchildren. I will be eternally gratfull to them all for what they accomplished on that day..
Tomorrow, July 5th 2020, marks the 49th year since the passing of my beloved grandfather James J. Piper who served in the US Army during World War I. I grew up around him my entire younger life until I left home at age 22. He was wounded twice by German machine gun fire in the last great offensive of the Great War, the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. I have his Purple Heart certificate conserved and framed along with some other precious memorabilia. We had a very special relationship as I was his first grandson. Pap was a 'tough' customer from the old school. He was raised rough - went in the coal mines at age 10, and had black lung. He also got a dose of mustard gas while in France over a hundred years ago. May his memory be eternal. I will never forget you, Pap, and think of you often.
