They pair up quite well with a couple of Scout Sentinels lurking around. Their ability neutralises the penalty to hit for indirect fire. Plus I can bring the Scout Sentinels back on the table for 2CP with their HK missiles restocked. 💥💥💥💀

Not these days. These days infantry and transports win everything. Tanks vary wildly. Artillery is currently a waste of time.the odd mortar for creed, or a basilisk to slow things... fine. But artillery damage is pathetic for its price.

That's the issue anything with low shot count. I can't tell you how many lascannons and demolisher rounds were either not sighted properly in my Vallahan reigments or the tech priest didn't get his paycheck due to all the 2s and 3s I had.

That’s the game though especially as guard. I have shot an d tire baneblade into infantry and not killed a single model do to low roll on number of shots and then invuln save

They don't do that much in my games and my opponent who I usually go against knows it's rules so never going into a 10man brick of terminators or anything. Still nit bad though. Maybe messing with movement wins for the basalisk

I have an old Forgeworld Manticore, which is special in my heart. Bought new from FW eons ago. After a failed colour scheme attempt, magnetization, I finished its lenghty painting only in 2016. Consequently I played my beloved Manticore when it was considered as an unreliable, points inefficient tank. And had a lot of fun doing it. 😄 It was not before the 8th edition's supplement "for the Greater Good" that the Manticore has entered the competitive Astra Militarum lists. Despite all the people around me urging to have a second one, I did not build another. As a veteran player, I'm accustomed to the typical pendulum returns, GW's style. So it was nerfed. The Manticore had a brief moment of glory, beginning of 10th edition. Then came the indirect fire nerfs. At 150 points I consider the Manticore too expensive to spam it. While GW has hit most indirect fire units hard, the Manticore was hit even harder. But taking one is nice. I'm considering that her days as a staple are over. For now...

Judging by the past tournament lists I have seen, the amount of agressors/inceptors made me include on of these for tomorrows tournament. Sure it only wounds them on 3+ but they will have to use stratagems to keep their 3+ save

My preferred fire support is 3 mortars heavy weapon teams. 180 points. 9d6+blastx9 shots. Sure it's not gonna kill a ton. But for points the most. And it's actually relatively resilient to counter battery because of separate units. Most army's only have 1-2 indirect fire arty. They fire and kill 1 a turn. That will take them 3 turns to clear 180 points. Then a basilisk or manticor finishes my artillery core

Im going for 2 teams and creed. Orders for both and free strategems and if they get rushed then creed can do a heroic intervention lol

I'd not use orders for hwt. Though they have good indirect fire per point. Their total indirect fire is low. So the effective damage from each order is low. Meaning lower conversion from your points spent on orders to enemy points killed.

A volley of medusas with support of rerolls typically kills the entire squad at once. And might not even need said support.

Kills 1 a squad. There are 3. The only weapon I know of that can target multiple enemy units at once is deathstrike

D3 is huge. I've heard some folks use 2~3 as dedicated anti tank. Born Soldiers is normally active on Manticores and T10 is nice. Sure they are swingy especially with the amount of invulnerable saves in 10th.

My plan is to get the Basilisk first, simply for the look of the huge barrel, but the big rockets on the Manticore do make me wish that Orks still had Pulsa Rokkits.

Good luck, they’re always sold out on the website, and EBay has them going for 90-100 a peice. I’m seriously considering buying a resin printer for vehicles.

I have been preferring the 2 Basilisk + 3 Scout Sentinel for the increased number of attacks and slow debuff, but every so often the Manticore tempts me. I think at the moment it doesn't fit with my list but I could easily see a world where I swap a Basilisk for one.

Eh, I think the basilisks do better. They have really good return on investment. Only having to score a hit is a lot easier when its 4 shots minimum compared to having to get through hits, wounds, and saves. I personally take them for the movement debuff, which means the damage they do is icing on the cake.

Mordian Glory, it seems like you're working your way through all the models, but if I could make a small request? Also as an open point for discussion with everyone else in the comment section, I am rather curious about thoughts on the Wyvern. I loved the old Griffon, love the idea of a mobile mortar carrier, would really love to hear opinions.

Nice model, stats are a bit clunky and give it an oddly narrow target list. The inbuilt reroll clashes with its expected pairing with a scout can (reroll 1s, ignore indirect debuff). Str 10 D3 wants to be going into t5 with either 3w no fnp or 2w 6+++. Blast and reroll vs 5+ models mean looking for medium size squads of the above. These do exist, but it's still a rather goldilocks requirement. I don't think it's terrible, but it clashes with the guard ethos. - It's not individually points efficient - It does not provide Apes Together Strong - It takes only limited advantage of Apes Together Strong.

so 3 manticores are 450 points. 3 manticore 'platforms' and leon would only be 410 and you still get leons abilities and the same to hit bonus with the orders and can now afford expert bombadiers strategems every turn now right? and heck why not both? (insert katyusha rocket gif here)

So. 2.5 squads of mortars (point for point). Is 7.5 mortars. Or 7.5d6+blast 7.5. Comparing vs t10 for the manticores best damage and one target. 5 wounds ap 0. Manticore 3.375 AP 2 wounds. Without support even with worst possible target hwt does notably more. Manticore scales better with support though

I think I agree, Basilisk does almost as much damage and plays the objective game from the far side of the board. Manticore, for all the damage it outputs, doesn't quite do that

@peterm.7427 plus movement is huge for games and the Basilisk hinders your opponents movement. Just a better all around artillery.... but all of that is just like my opinion man

Sorry but the WSHHHHHOOOOOH BOOM noise of a rocket isnt as cool as the KHAAAA BOOM noise a Basilisk makes. I was hoping to find out where they keep the 5th missile.
