Thank you so much for that thorough walk through. I dismantled, cleaned and put my tiller back together with confidence as to what I was doing. Started right back up and worked like a charm!! Thank you again for allowing a gal to keep her dads old tiller functioning.
Great vid ! Thx ! Is this one in the vid, a model #7924 ? I'm going to rent one from HD. If it bogs on me, I know what to tell them. When u know & they kno, too. There's less talk about it an more action ! 😉😎
This will catch some people off guard , The mantis tiller is fitted with a spark arrestor screen on the outlet of the muffler "if it's mostly plugged up with carbon" it will keep your machine from reving as well so make sure to check the spark arrestor screen and clean it if its plugged . there fuel system hates ethanol containing fuel as it will attack fuel lines and internal carburetor parts , it can damage the tiny "internal" check valve in the carb you will likely be unable to clean the carb and will have to replace it.
Mine predates this one and may have worn rings as well. But the one thing I've found is that these tiny engines can be finicky if they're not fed premium gas with the oil mix. My chainsaws, relatively new, still show a difference in performance with premium vs. regular gasoline. Cheers!
Was there a gasket between the white primer bulb base and the diaphragm (or between the diaphragm and the carb body)? I did not see if there was one in your video. My original Mantis manual's exploded view shows a gasket under the diaphragm. What's correct? Thanks. Ron G.
I can't say with 100% accuracy, it's been 4 years since this video was posted. I believe there's a metal 4 bolt that keeps the primer bulb in then against the carb the metering diaphragm then a base gasket. Hope that helps.
So mine was bogging down as well. I bought a complete new carb kit and had the same issue with it bogging down. Took both carbs apart and cleaned them and still haven't got the power. Any idea what to do next? I am kinda able to get it running and the idle speed will move the blades and can turn up some dirt but most of the time won't. Thanks
I would suggest making sure you have good fuel lines, no cracks or anything causing a vacuum leak. Also, when tuning the carburetor, very small turns of the high and low. Typically if it doesn't idle properly you have an air leak, bad compression, or the low jet is running to rich or lean. Please let me know how it goes
The only other two things I can think of is the compression is going down or the carburetor needs precisely tuned. Or possibly the new carburetor is ineffective? There's only a handful of possibilities.
