16 years later after trying to use m42 lenses on a Pentax *ist DS, I finally have a camera that's basically the ultimate one for using old fully manual film era glass, or actually the new manual lenses too. It has strong focus aids in the form of peaking and zoom-in with assignable buttons. When considering the price I see this as the best new option for this type of photography. You've got an electronic viewfinder with decent resolution and nice large high quality optics that gives you focus aids through it that a DSLR can't do. You've got a good button layout and ways to position the focus point around (to zoom in at). Peaking works when zoomed in... I could go on!
I bought the Z5 back when it was $1000 body-only price so keep that in mind. There could be other options with a similar feature set if it is more expensive when you are watching this.

Yeah, I went with the A7R3 for vintage glass, but if Nikon made a retro camera with no optical low pass filter I would buy it so fast.

Z5 seems be to cheapest full frame mirrorless with IBIS (if ya exclude the very old A7ii). Correct me if I’m wrong

It also has a very nice viewfinder for the price. I couldn't find anything that was comparable.

Just ordered the Z5 primarily for using the vintages lenses I’ve been collecting for film. Seemed like a good option compared to the Sonys for my purpose. Although, most vintage lenses in FB groups seem to be paired with Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras.

Awesome! Hope it works out well for you. I'm not sure what Sony FF mirrorless have for manual focus aids. The ones on the Z5 feel more than sufficient for me. A main consideration I had was EVF resolution. In Sony land, maybe a used A7r II or better would get a similar manual lens experience to the Z5 due to it having an EVF of similar resolution. The A7 series have lagged in EVF resolution. Not until the current A7 IV is the EVF comparable to the Z5's one.

@@ScottJWaldron Z5 and Konica AR adapter arrived. Good grief the manual focus is so nice. I could never focus my Konica 57mm 1.2 on my Konica SLRs like I can with the Z5. Unless you’re doing wildlife and sports, vintage glass is the way to go with these cameras.

@@gregoryluna535 Not sure I showed assigning zoom to buttons in this video, but there are 3 levels of zoom you can link to buttons. I've found that the easiest way to get critical focus.

@@ScottJWaldron ThNks. I’ll play around with it. I pushed the zoom button but had to re-center my subject. The subject ended up in the corner when took the shot. But only spent a few minutes with it so far.

Thank you for your useful sharing! If I use the same lens in Z5 and z6ii, is there any difference in image quality? (especially at the corner) There are thinner CMOS IR filters in z6 an z7. I am going to use Rangefinder lens in z5 or z6ii, but worrying about the shorter flange focal distance may cause sharp decline in picture quality.

I haven't used any rangefinder lenses which naturally have a shorter flange distance than this M42 lens, so I can't comment on if there would be an image quality issue. Try it out and see?

They are very different cameras. Better would depend on what you want to do and what type of lenses you want.

There are versions of this lens that are radioactive. As far as I can tell this one is the early 8-element lens that isn't but I don't have a geiger counter to test it. Though, after looking around I see this guy showing his 8-element lens being radioactive. My God, youre really struggling with exposures! Use auto iso, youre not hitting right exposure settings anyway! Its daylight, let camera decide shutter speed and iso dude!
