Did this to mine a couple weeks ago, finally getting it off of stands and on the road this weekend, hope i did it right! Glad you’re still playin with these chassis
havent been running power steering on my "93 for over 4 years. I just removed my pump and drained my fluid , probably not the best method but havent had any issues with steering problems at all. Thinking I may give this conversion a try though if it could improve driveability. Love the Channel, keep em coming, thanks
I did this with a 3rd gen prelude rack. The valving inside is very similar to the CB. To remove the play, what I did, was knock that pin back into the housing. If you try to reinstall the pinion, it won't fit. You drill a hole for the pin, just barely smaller than it is. use a press to press it in. No more play. I have pictures of this.
I just finished the video. I actually really like how you did that. I'm going to redo my cb soon, because I didn't do this step years ago, and I'm gonna steal your solution lmao
Another way to get rid of the slack is adding washers to the cylinder that interacts with that part that has slack. You have to keep the valve body but you can take out all the lil jets n shit. Just did it tonight lol
Have you driven it with the seal around the rod yet? , I’m just putting finishing touches on mine from following your video and wanted to know if I can leave it on without cutting, also I was wondering if it would be better to leave those small rings for the left and right jets or if I should leave them out?
Very nice explanation and video! However are you not concerned about the exposed rack and pinion bolt sticking out of your block off plate? I guess it would entualy rust and stuff could get in the rack since its not sealed around the bolt?
I have only one question about this and it relates to the speed sensor in these cars. The speed sensor is attached to the power steering lines for cooling how do you deal with that not having fluid to it?
The h22 t2w4 trans that I swapped to doesn’t have that whole system with the power steering lines going thru the speed sensor. I forget what that system is called but it’s main purpose is to reduce the amount of power steering you have above 30-40mph so you’re not swerving everywhere on the highway with a little touch of the wheel. Back when I had the original f22 trans I just looped the lines on the speed sensor and it ran fine until I swapped with no issues.
Does this make the steering any easier to turn than if you just looped the lines? Been rolling around without fluid for a while and it’s super difficult to turn if I’m not moving. Obviously it would be more difficult but I have to really crank on it so I’m considering also swapping to a manual rack.
I’ve been driving my cb7 with just the PS belt off and parking at a dead stop is really tough. I want to do this but only if it helps with steering at a stop/slow speed. If Power Steering is 1(easy) and just no belt is 10(hardest) what would you rate this?
the pump still in the system and the resistance is still there, you should loop the line and feel the difference. its easy to steer even without power steering ... i regret coz i dont make it years before ...
