This is only what we see. I bet a few toes went missing too. And OHSA is not in their life at all. But they are careful enough to do their daily grind. Still my respect to them all. =)
truth be told even if you went to the factory that is uses high-tech to do the same thing they would just add a couple of machines to compress the sand and do the heavy lifting. This is the way metal has been cast since the bronze age. These guys are a little rough and ready but obviously skilled. I doubt Fiat still makes these single cylinder Diesel engines anymore but they are simple and reliable just grab the flywheel yank as hard as you can and hope like hell it doesn't start running backwards then use it to power anything from a generator to a pump
I visited a poor country once. Tried to show them a better way of doing things. Waste of time. They only know what they are taught. Anything else is wrong.

Not really, they make cloned copies of the old English engines and change the name and keep churning them out decades after they stopped production in England.
