Manufacturing Process of Truck Engine Pistons Which Made From Cast Iron| Production of Engine Piston #enginepiston #manufacturingenginepiston #productionofpiston
The pistons are oval to varying degrees according to the height examined. Sometimes the ring-area and above is round. Below the rings lateral is not straight, but curved (ballistics) on the mentioned oval base. Sometimes the ring-area and above is conal or cylinder. They make poor quality pistons. But I see that it is better than nothing. So my respect.
Poor quality is an understatement, the distance from gudgeon pin to the piston crown wasnt even measured so every piston is going to have a different height which will give different compression ratios in each chamber. Doesnt matter anyway, i doubt they last more than a few hundred kms.
I actually can distinguish it from the original... This video was actually a good reminder to think and check very carefully before buying any aftermarket parts.
I wonder how many hours the engine will have before complete piston failure? Different materials, different weights for each piston, the engine vibration must be brutal. How accurate is that lathe? Yeah, that is what I thought.
I see basic metal failings throughout these and similar type videos in that heat treatment is not understood whatsoever. I'm not sure if the workers genuinely don't know or perhaps they do know and as you say the components will soon be back for a rebuild. Perhaps it's done to keep themselves in employment! Decades ago when needing to repair small 2T motorcycle engines we had two options: Genuine parts or cheaper pattern parts. We soon realised the false economy of pattern parts - the metal was of very low quality with dubious alloys used and questionable grain structure showing. Even when meting the aluminium (and other things) down for this video they do not sample for quality before casting. No additives are used for removing gas bubbles from the metal mix either.
So amazing talent doing like this as an expert piston maker, sir thanks to the job well-done, perhaps more people can learn this skill, and its a great job.
Considering the available materials and tools in some countries Im thinking theres nothing wrong with the manufacturing. As far as balance is concerned its likely theyre all weighed and machined to provide the same weight of each piston. That may be why the piston tops arent finished. Dynamic balancing might not be a serious issue with low rpm engines. My guess is theyre not building formula car race engines. Aluminum pistons that will be getting cast iron rings last just fine. These guys could likely build anything if they had better equipment. A dirt floor shop isnt exactly high tech
They should consider making a jig for their lathe, then use a stepped chucking reamer to cut the wrist pin holes in one simple operation. Also, another jig for cutting the oiling holes, done with endmills, since drill bits tend to drift..
They are old bed ford engines and been over hauled many times even there crank shafts are made locally old fashioned. And they are good enough to run thousands of kilometers.
they run bruh they drive they trucks 15000 ft in the hamalayas on mud roads constantly dodging huge rocks and mudslides we got our fancy machines cnc and mig and tig and cmm and qc but out overpriced over engineered lemons wont deal with any of the stuff theres do
Title said pistons made from cast iron. That hilarious that would sound interesting. Yes it looks like very strict quality control I wonder if TRW employees wear slippers to work ?
Surprising the pistons of any vehicular engine is supposed to be made by aluminum casting and not from cast iron, for obvious reasons of heat conduction....
they look like runaways. That guy on the tonio putting his hands all over the place made me shiver. I understand poverty, but we didn't work like this even 200 years ago
Slight issue is that pistons are not normally round; they are turned slightly oval to allow for the difference in expansion when hot between the gudgeon pin bore and the rest of the skirt. Also not sure how square the gudgeon pin bore is to the rest of the piston.
You cannot be that ignorant. All pistons and all cylinders have to be perfectly round or they will never work. In fact when any engine wears down the top and bottom of it's crankshaft path over time also renders them useless.
You are ignorant. Having spent 4 years as an apprentice for a company who made diesel engine cylinder components I k ow how pistons are made. They are only truly round when they are hot! This is because the piston is not a uniform shape and it changes with heat expansion. We used a specially adapted lathe to turn the pistons. The company (Wellworthy) was 100% supplier to Cummins and Perkins in the UK when I worked there.
@@simondegrave2620 Ive read it, Kisten ive been a diesel nechanic all my life. I've constantly rebuilt cats, cummins, Detroit's, several volvos, and several Iveco trucks powered by Ford Desiel engines. Of all of those engines all of them are precisely round to perfection. Ive also miked them, I've had to bore cylinders on several mills, and I've turned down allot of pistons on a Mazak computerized Lathe as well. Fir the sakevof saving yourself tell us all what tool botes all cylinders? Its called a fly cutter and its only set to bore oerfectly round holes in all engine blocks and in all diesel sleeves. So your mistaken. But maybe you mean ballancing weights where pistons front and rear have to match both sides in balanced weight. In thst case the large diesel engine pistons have added counterweights cut into them for ballancing. I think that is what you are referring to. However the pistons dianeter and the skeeves dianeters are perfectly round and have a size diffence of .002 to. 004 deoending on desired compression ordered by preferred choice. For either 10.0 to 1 or up to 11.5 to 1 nominally. Which the 11.5 to 1 would be the tightest clearance of .002 thousands of an inch or less..
On Lathe Piston work, tool bit of no finishing angle, No Wise on drilling machine & drill bit wobbling. Please fallow safety & Tipped Tools; & get good finish. Thank you
