Hello Thank you for making this video, my question is my employer wants me to bring the 540 day extension receipt although I showed them the website. What should I do?
Thank you for your question and for being part of ASAP’s community! You can bring them the receipt notice showing that you have applied to renew your work permit. You can see an example of what this notice looks like if you applied by mail here (help.asylumadvocacy.org/work-permit-receipt-notice/) and if you applied online here (help.asylumadvocacy.org/work-permit-receipt-notice-online/). If you applied online and do not have a paper notice, you can print it from your USCIS online account. In order to verify that you qualify for the automatic extension, employers are supposed to request that you show them the actual receipt notice. You can find more information about how to show your employer that you have the automatic extension to continue working here: help.asylumadvocacy.org/work-permits/#work-after-expiration You can also find legal help here: help.asylumadvocacy.org/find-help/#lawyer. I have not received a letter indicating that the short immigration has accepted my file and has not received the fingerprint appointment too, but when I call my box, count the days when I am 138 days away, what should I do?
Thank you for your question and for being part of ASAP’s community! The immigration court will not send you a receipt notice when they receive your asylum application. If you want proof that you submitted your asylum application, there are additional steps you need to take. You can read about those steps here: help.asylumadvocacy.org/faqs-asylum-application/#how-to-get-receipt. Unfortunately, it is currently normal to have to wait a long time before USCIS schedules you for a biometrics appointment. You can learn more about what to do if you have not received a biometrics appointment here: help.asylumadvocacy.org/faqs-biometrics/#missing-biometrics-notice. You can apply for your work permit once you have 150 days on your asylum clock even if you have not yet received your biometrics appointment notice. Thank you for your question and for being part of ASAP’s community! We do not recommend altering the receipt notice or any other government-issued document. Instead, we recommend directing any employer or DMV to the USCIS website listed on the receipt notice, www.uscis.gov/eadautoextend. It explains why even a receipt notice showing a 180-day extension now grants a 540-day extension. Your employer or the DMV can also use this USCIS calculator to confirm your 540-day extension: www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-resources/employment-authorization-document-ead-automatic-extension-calculator You can find more information about working after the expiration of your current work permit here: help.asylumadvocacy.org/work-permits/#work-after-expiration.
