At the end of the day, people will remember those who pushed the envelop. And Mao, by insisting 3A, instead of making sure her components align with mere judges' expectations in order to get a high score, deserves so much more respect.

Yes, agreed to eelbjorn. I wasn´t expecting that. It seemed that she hast lost fun and the courage to go for the triple axel. 3A in SP was great...the double foot in the LP not necesseary. But she seems to become more and more confident again. Seriously: She don´t have to prove anything...so many titles, she has won so far. Go and have fun! Bravo, Mao!
I agree, Yuna's jumps are not as explosive as the jumps during the Olympics, but I think with more training, she can improve. I just love that Mao has continue after the Olympics and kept her body healthy for the this Olympics coming up in 2014. I love both skater, but I Really hope and wish that Mao wins. She has worked hard all her life.
I didn't even read through this comment after "Leaving behind the jumping technique" lol. She is a SKATER, not a gladiator. It is natural for the audience, commentators and judges to consider an athlete's skills and technique as top priority. All competitors in the game devote years of time and effort into achieving their goals and it's unfair to degrade a skater's fighter instincts. Also, Yuna's jumps are very difficult. If those are so "easy", Mao would have tried pulling that off years ago.
Beautiful program from Mao. Thank you for uploading it. Both Yuna and Mao are beautiful skaters that will long be remembered by the skating fans around the world. For all those of you who are so eager to critique and compare their jumps and artistry, I hope you can learn to simply enjoy the beautiful performances both of these amazingly talented ladies have worked so hard to produce. Kudos to all skaters who practice tirelessly to perform these amazing programs - they are so inspiring.
Arakawa's Ina Bauer was gorgeous, but it's not technically the right comparison since she didn't jump directly from that position (she takes extra steps to gather herself before going into 3S); it was more like Ina Bauer then 3S. Yuna, in contrast, performs 2A w/o taking additional steps from Ina Bauer; it's 2A from Ina Bauer, not Ina Bauer, then 2A. Watch Yuna's Olympic Gala program. You'll see a more fully extended Ina Bauer when she doesn't have to jump from that position.
She doesn't need to catch up on her medal level. Most talented skaters don't necessarily medal at all. Look at Kwan. She's an exceptional skater and she didn't even get a gold medal.
If lady can do 3A, I think she would attempt it. It might be a stressful challenge, but with fighter instinct that Asada has, she would go for it. Asada did not attempt Lz/S during the Olypmics, but Kim didn't have Axel/Loop either. Btw, Kim's ina bauer is not pretty and I would recommend you to watch Arakawa's "layback Ina Bauer into 3-2-2 jump" from Torino Olympics. It's right after Arakawa's accomplishment that Kim started that inflexible layback ina bauer.
well, Mao didn't attempt single Lz or S during the Olympics. So, Mao also leaves out her weak jumps when the stakes are high. I also wonder why Yuna doesn't do 3Lo in her program since I've seen her execute it perfectly before. BTW, Mao brought her 3A back because she knows she can't compete against Yuna's 3Lz or 3-3. Even "uncountable" 2As yuna does, she does them from Ina Bauer and Spread Eagle positions. If Mao doesn't do 3A, what other options does she have?
i think the slow motion camera told me that the triple axel is fully rotated but two footed anyway, it is not the 3A in her sp not perfect Mao next time you will be more than perfect

figure skaters does the same jumps all the time, but that doesnt mean they copy each others jumps, it means that either skaters can do both jumps! you claim as if your skater filed for a copyright for that partiicular jump geez.. and it doesnt matter what language this video uploads.. its english anyway its a universal language, but the thing is this is mao chan's video so we have much more right than you..
it is not our fault by the way if your skater cannot adapt on the new rules of ISU which made her jumps and combination regular and nothing special.. because this time the ISU panel an organizers finally open up their eyes and award skaters with most difficult jumps which is FAiR even on any other sports! the harder the program the higher the score! that is just common sense, it is time now for the ISU ti give highmarks on asada's triple axel

but yuna is smart on the ice and even with a 2a can still beat everyone because of her quality and confidence, Im not saying mao doesnt have those things its just yuna has more.
