Join us at Julien’s Spotlight History and Technology Auction on July 11th, where you can acquire a rare and historically significant photo album commemorating the fifth anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949 by Chairman Mao Zedong (Mao Tse-tung). This unique album is hand-signed by Chairman Mao and was gifted to Raiko Damyanov, Vice President of the Bulgarian Council of Ministers, in 1954.
The album features an inscription in Bulgarian on the front endpaper: “To the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Raiko Damyanov, in honor of the fifth anniversary of the creation of the PRC - October 1954.” This is followed by several pages of half-tone photographs of Damyanov’s visit to China, including a woven silk portrait of Vladimir Lenin and a notable image of Damyanov shaking hands with Chairman Mao, signed by Mao himself.
Included in the album are:

This album is believed to document a Soviet delegation led by Nikita Khrushchev that visited Beijing in October of 1954. Measuring 7.5 x 9.5 inches, this artifact offers a rare glimpse into historical diplomatic relations and is estimated to be valued between $20,000 and $30,000.
