Two drastically different takes on this mic in one video. This went from one end of the spectrum to the other very quickly.

I got this mic and the material is very resonate. After I opened the mic and put some windscreen Inside the Mic, it reduced it by like 70%

I just got the boom arm kit version of this mic and came here to say you were dead-on about the resonance. It doesn't just happen with labial plosives (/p/, /b/) but also with lower voice frequencies. I have what they call a "bassy" voice, and listening to a recording of my own voice, I can definitely hear this resonance/metallic rumble whenever my voice produces bass. It's like lower frequencies make the chasis vibrate. I also find the sound to be a bit too bright for my liking. I have another budget mic (a dynamic mic though) which I've been using for a while now, Samson Q2U, which sounds a bit better in my opinion. I think for speech (not singing), streaming, podcasting etc. dynamic mics are the way to go.
@ObscureMics
@ObscureMics 3 года назад
Agree with you 100% . While I think condensers are a more accurate way to get that full spectrum....dynamics are the way to go for podcasting and untreated spaces. Q2U is a good one to just don't get things done

@@ObscureMics Thanks for your response. I was actually considering ordering the Marantz pm-1000 which is currently around 60$ before definitely giving up on budget condensers. I wish Samson made an XLR version of the G-track which my friend has and whose sound I really like for the price.

It’s a pity about the ringing noise. Do you think a few layers of gaffers tape around the body would fix it? Thanks for making this video, mate.

Obscure Mics perhaps something like rubber rings or other shock absorbers used to dampen vibrations? Good luck, let us know what you find. Steve.

The resonance of the body is very easy to fix it, with foam. But the sound is really great!!

I bought this mic today and I'm a little confused. Is it normal for the gain to be all the way up (48v On) so that I can hear normally? (I'm with Scarlett Solo 3gen)

Would the pop filter have helped at all with the resonance when you make the 'P' sounds? Obviously it won't help at all if you hit it but perhaps the boom arm & pop filter would help?

I'd say marginally it would have. My apologies for not testing.

Just got the Mic and have the same problems. Every tab on the desk or my mouse makes a "resonance" noise on the mic.

Can we get a miniseries on experiments in trying to kill that resonance? Hack an internal windscreen line the body with dynamat wrap the capsule in pantyhose, etc. Could be a fun bit of tinkering to see what works and what doesn't.

I don't have that resonance with the kit that came with it. And definitely no metallic sound like you do. Maybe they got a new body really, cause I got it like a week ago and this review was two years ago.

@@ObscureMics I got an idea. What if you were to take the guts out of a mic, and put it in a wood casing? Wooden speaker boxes had a warm natural sound, the same may be true for mics. Just be careful with the soldering iron, don't burn down the building!!

Does this thing record 24 bit or not? Without technical specs.... this isn'nt helpful sorry. People want microphones that can handle 24 and it's so frustrating. It's so hard to find a decent price condenser mic with something other tjan a unidirectional pattern. Ine spec or another iz always missing. I need a minimum of a 96 Khz range. I cannot find what I need
