you have quickly become one of favorite tutorials... ALL of the information you share makes sense to my brain. I am a retired middle school math and science teacher, so all that you shared today makes sense to me... "Math is a beautiful thing"
Hello! Such a great block! I hope you have have a lovely day. I just got home from a tea party and I had a wonderful time. I hope you have a great week ahead. Thank you for posting your video and your expertise!
I appreciate your direct approach to quilt math. Too often I hear lamentations that the quilt math is too hard. It is not. As you note, 360 is important. And understanding how to divide the circle appropriately for one's project. It is also important to understand the angles that one is working with. A triangle in a square has a unique angle found only on Tri Recs (or V Block Deb Tucker) rulers. (Would that rulers included this useful angle!) Most important is the square root of two, or 1.414--the number we need that computes the diagonal of a square when used as a multiplier, or the size of our squares when used as a divisor (and coupled with appropriate seam allowance). Command of this simple calculation allows a quilter to easily determine square sizes for custom blocks set on point (to include appropriate seam allowance for both side setting (QST's) and corner setting triangles (HST's) or any other application. Mastering (v running from) the basics improves one's self reliance. Substitute, "I don't do math" with "I CAN do math (but it still makes my head hurt)"
I do like 360, but I’m also partial to 72 ( think cookie exchange). Similar reasons. But I’ve always wanted to do a 5 point star or a pentagonal block. BTW 13 is fun too, only because it’s prime!
I'll say my opinion...LOL. The multi-color pattern looks nice, but the yellow and beige/tan colors don't work. They are too light and the Hunter's Arrow shape is lost when using a color so close to the background.
