The Metallion is a 14 x 5.5 1.2mm seamed brass shell. Mapex refer to this drum as the standard. The Brass shell is typically warm with a great balance of metal shell attack. If you're looking for something metal a shade away from wood, this could be a great choice!
The Metallion has Sonic Saver Hoops, staggered 1/8" offset locking B lugs and slightly different bearing edge profiles - the batter side is 45 degree, the snare side is 35 degree. The drum is finished in a brushed gloss, has chrome hardware and comes fitted with Remo USA Ambassador X Coated batter head and Ambassador Snare Side underside.
The Black Panther Cylinder drive snare mechanism is fitted which allows the snare wires to be incrementally tensioned from both ends of the wire.
Like all Black Panther series drums from recent years this snare comes with a Mapex Black Panther draw string bag which allows you to safely store the drum and protect the hardware and finish when not in use.

Absolutely stunning! Beautiful sound, beautiful drum. Mapex is just on top of it. No one can beat their snares within the price range, as well as their intermediate level kits. The Armory line up cant be out done by competitors in the sub $1000 range. They feel like pro drums for a fraction of the cost. They have a customer for life. If you have never tried a Black Panther, you are definitely missing out. They all sound great and quality is exceptional. Love you Mapex 😘

I am a black beauty player and bought this snare a few months back. Jesus it is so good and gives the BB a run for its monay at a fraction of the cost.No more to be said Mapex. Awesome !

Just bought one of these from my local shop. Killer drum for the price. This is a great example of how it sounds under a mic. But the tone isn't fully represented. This drum really sings!

This and their copper are my favourites in the current range. Good value for the money. I’d still like to see their bronze come back.

Great vid and love the recorded sound in low and high tuning (for different purposes). I've got this snare for a couple of months now and it's keeping all other snares useless (apart from one Mapex maple/walnut, low tuned snare with hydraulic head as sidesnare). However, since the pandemic and as a consequence not having it heard through the PA or recorded from my perspective playin' it sounds great. What I don't get in vids is why tuning freq's aren't mentioned. Since the devices we've finally got for that as drummers it would be so helpful for recreating a specific sound to know these freq's from top and bottom head...!! Apart from that....Mapex, the best quality for your money once again (as it is in a lot of price ranges from snares to shell sets!!)

Hi Adam, thanks for your really kind words, it's lots of little things that add up to the sound, maybe we should do a video on the set up and process. There isn't a reverb on our videos we are lucky to have a large room and we've placed two mics up in two particular sweet spots that are mixed hard left and right with a lot of compression and low and high filter to bring all the mids out without the top end of the cymbals or too much low end energy over powering. It gives a nice stereo image too. We don't mix anything else from the drums to the hard left or right which we've found helps keep the focus and allows those rooms to work as the depth.
