With ragtime always on the sunny side of life :-) The COVID-Time was too boring - i had to play something funny. I hope you enjoy this popular piece from Scott Joplin too! Have a nice time! CU, Jakob
I'm 15, I learned the entertainer and now I'm trying fantaisie impromptu. I need motivation to try to learn this one too😂, so if so many people can play it maybe I can too
@@mattia7323 Impromptu would be quite difficult for me. I have never been good in classic music like that with hard right hands. Maple Leaf Rag is really worth learning though
I learned Chopin’s Winter Wind so that’s like difficult so maybe I can try to learn this. I like this song a lot but I’m not sure if I can learn it. Maybe if I practice a lot I can?
@@jakobfenzel4105 You are perfectly welcome! I used to play the piano but unfortunately I gave up many years ago :( And it wasn’t until now that I start to love music like these. I am thinking about picking it up again :) Are you also interested in oldies like me?
As a ragtime player, I quite admire the dedication in the video! Many non-musicians don't realize how hard ragtime is! Many musicians avoid it as it is extremely hard to sight read and usually requires a lot of practice.. In this piece, especially the third part, is particularly difficult. Hardest bars to play in my opinion is near the end of the hardest section: the third section, at 1:33. (At least when i first practiced it) Even so, Jakob played these parts really well.
Completely agree.... have been working on the first two parts for quite a while now, but it's almost an impossible task with the rhythm stuff going on in the left and right hand. Although you do get used to the patterns in the song, which does speed up the progress a bit lately.
It's not very hard, (Or well at least for me) I practiced piano from 0% in like 2 months and then i decided to learn this song, i learned the 2 first parts in 2 days , and i learned the full song in 2 weeks, maybe some people has more "Skill?" idk, but for me the rag time isn't hard.
@@akamundi864 That's why i say it, because i started to play piano in just 2 months and just like 15 minutes every day, and then i decided to practice this song and i learned to play it full in 2 weeks with 30 minutes of practice everyday. I think that it depends too in "Birth skills", because it wasn't hard for me, but it can be an impossible song for others to play in just 2 months of experience with piano.
Underrated! As a fellow 14 year old musician who has been playing for over 75% of my life, the work and dedication that is put into basics, exercises, and hours in order to make such a flawless performance, extremely impressive! Keep it up!
@@jakobfenzel4105 As much as I would have wanted to, I've never played that. I personally play the violin, and I just recognized that there's a lot of work and years of practice that goes into make a piece seem seamless.
BRAVO! You got not only the technique (which is very challenging) - you also got the spirit of the piece. I am sure Scott Joplin would have loved to hear you play his music. And your parents must be VERY proud. Keep it up!
I was playing the same thing on my parent's 1893 Kimball piano when I was 14.... you are a smidgen better, but the dog thought I was good! LOL...Keep up the good work!
Nice job! I'm 15 and have been playing for seven years. I really enjoy playing this song (can play in basically every key). Another song I would recommend is The Entertainer, also by Scott Joplin. I just finished learning it, and it's very fun to play if you enjoy the Maple Leaf Rag.
My friend, when you play this well, the least important thing is the smile or anything else since the notes and the song that you are playing at that moment speak for you.
Have you ever heard of Liberace? No matter what he played he smiled and you knew he was enjoying playing for his audience. Go look him up and stop making ridiculous comments like that. He wasn’t called Mr. Showmanship for nothing.
It's time for a "two years older" video from Jakob doing the Rag. Here you're very technically proficient but I hear the Maple Leaf Rag more as a louder, prouder more jaunty jump with sweet little light touches. Go ahead and bang on those keys! Picture a one-man band marching down the street trying to get everyone's attention.
Gut gemacht, junger Mann, ich habe es gespielt, als ich 36 war. Einer meiner Schüler ist jetzt 15 Jahre alt und kämpft darum, das Stück fertig zu stellen.
I’m 15 and I have been into ragtime for few years. I’m studying James Scott, Joseph Lamb, and Scott Joplin (the 3 big ragtime composers) and am getting really into New Orleans/ Dixieland stuff, which evolved from Ragtime. There’s a lot of great groups like the Firehouse five plus Two, Original Dixieland Jazz Band, and The Dukes of Dixieland. Study some of the stuff because in order to sound good you should listen to a lot of music. Great performance by the way, and good luck! Also, you probably already know, but check out Tom Brier. He’s great
You did an excellent job! This is my favourite version I’ve heard on RU-vid, it’s certainly not an easy piece to play as I learnt it for my grade 7 piano exam, great job Jakob, keep up the great work! ♥️ edit: I love your happy and positive attitude when playing it’s very professional like the way you express your self, again great job!
@@Zachy_Wacky978 He did a very good job. As for best version on You Tube, check out Kristen Mosca performance below ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3aWSUUWVfXU.html
