"So you've played hollow knight right? Riiight?" Well unless you count 20 or 30 minutes wandering aimlessly, I've failed you in the 5 seconds of the video
@@thatgingerentrepreneur I'm on my first playthrough and just got there, am n o t a fan of the normal dudes turning to spiders nor the giant one chilling in the hall
@@triggereddiobrando flashbacks to when i lost 9000 geo in deepnest... ill just say that i didnt pick the game up the next day cuz i was still trying to get unbreakable charms
fun fact: when I got the first map, I saw the False Knight face on it, assumed it was a boss, and immediately went to False Knight and got absolutely destroyed
I did the opposite, I knew who hornet was and thought the symbol for the false knight was her 😭. Very glad my first boss ended up being gruz though, may have not continued if I got destroyed immediately.
I ended up doing this for every run after my first one. Including my 100% steel soul run. It honestly went pretty well. Since I explored so much in my first run I just memorized most of the map It was pretty fun
Really really well written video! I wish i could just go back before i had the entire map memorized and do something like this. Such a magical and genuine way to experience the game.
Download the mod installer and play a room or room-item randomiser! It honestly evokes the same feeling of having no idea where you are, even if the cohesion of the areas and progression is lost.
This is exactly what I did in my first run after getting all the achievements. I was like: "Hell, if I wanna speedrun this game properly, I might gain something from knowing the map like the back of my hand." I took a wrong turn SO MANY TIMES. But I now feel like a stronger knight for it. Got my first sub 50 on Xbox One (Current patch) a few weeks ago. Keep em coming Windette. Great Content.
I can do it. The way my memory works is astounding for map memorisation, to the point that I became a moderator for a twitch community because of how considerate I was, whenever the streamer was lost, and had no idea what they were doing/where they should be going. I did it over and over with Ori and the Blind Forest, and certainly won't get lost in Hollow Knight either.
kek, those are both games that I've speedrun so I also know the map by default xD (the people who truly excel though are freaking randomiser runners o.O they got not only the whole map down pat, but also every single god damn item!!)
Dude, you got a really nice voice, you know that? You know, when you're not screaming at our ineptitude and sheer lack of capability at being able to complete even the most simple of tasks. But seriously, fun video, I'm all up for the word play and I couldn't stop smiling or laughing through the while thing. Hope you're having a good day and a good time. Look forward your next video!
I did this MAPLESS challenge twice. It was fun. :) Jokes on you I laughed so many times whenever I got lost... Deepnest being the funniest place of all!!!
i actually dont use maps on any of my playthroughs, it helps you memorize the terrain and have a general know how of the land, which works till a degree till ur lost in deepnest trying to find beasts den
So I memorized the whole map by the end of my first playthrough, the only area my brain refuses to memorize perfectly is deepnest so am I above average or just Normal
i watched this when it came out, but i had to watch it again because it's one of the best hollow knight videos i've ever watched. the wordplay is amazing
I've been planning on doing this for a while already. The biggest downside is that you can't see the "You have no map for this area" screen if you purchase no map ever.
I have done this regularly in randomizers. It's always fun to rely on your memory of the game to find all the items you can reach (or break logic because you didn't know you weren't supposed to pogo infected vengeflies to reach blue lake as that stops working when you get a few nail upgrades).
I must admit your magnificent mumblings have tempted me into meandering once more into the misleading maze of Hallownest. Shall I carve my messy path through remote mounds, worm-burrows and moss-covered ruins, mapless? Or shall I mourn, motionless and immobile my wits and wisdom as the mere glimmer of the lumaflies fails to guide my movements in this morbid once magical kingdom? Attempting a map-less run. And having fun with it. Thanks for the idea!
Unfortunently, I had not only completed the entire gave more than twice, and I had in comemoration a giant map of hallownest to stare at before sleep, I now cannot feel lost. I think next metroidvania I play I'll not look up the map much if any. I hardly recall the feeling of wonder.
First thing I did after beating 112% was memorize the map and Any% route plus the 112 route for fun, so while intriguing while I was learning I about have every room committed to memory at this point
Sadly this experience is lost to me. After so long playing this game, the map is so firmly lodged in my head that only long-term memory loss could shake it free. I wish I could forget, simply to have the experience of being lost once more.
Man my first playthrough the first 20 hours were without a map because corrniffer said its interesting to explore on your own, that was a fucking mistake. Had to have a friend come over and tell me exactly where to go which without me realising it ruined one of the best aspects of this game. Still regret that
I was gonna give a try it but then i just remembered that during my steel soul run, after beating traitor lord i came back to Dirtmouth and realized cornifer was sleeping, and iselda was selling *all* of the maps
I have a fairly decent memory, to the point where I could tell you some random fact that I read in an article off of the Google home page literally ages ago. Now I’m almost done with my first save file, which I tasked myself with getting 112% and finish the hunter’s journal. But I have to say… With 109% of the game done AND the hunter’s journal done, THIS GAME’S LAYOUT IS SO CONFUSING! I am SO glad there is a map, otherwise I would be so fucked. I give major props to the people who have the map completely (or almost completely) memorized. That being said, I definitely will be trying this when I am done with 112%, and probably giving myself the worlds largest headache trying to remember where the hell everything is. P.S.- yea I know I said it’s only my first save file, but at the same time, I’ve poured 75 hours of my time into it already since July.
0:51 maybe the bugs(both intellectual bugs, and the bugs at the level of the animal)of that universe are the dominant race on earth instead of humans, who also could be human sized or even larger(how we see with hunter or stags for example)
Haha yea I actually did a mapless challenge on Steel Soul because I wanted to feel like I was exploring Hallownest for the first time again. And also I had the entire map memorized by then because my previous run was a 112% and I figured I'd save up Geo
Well, i can propose a theory on how that feather of such a small size was made, Here is one theory i propose. The moth tribe: There were once a time when a tribe of many moths roamed the passages and crossroads of hallownest. When a moth sheds/perishes, they loose feathers, and these feathers, claimed by wandering travelers of hallownest, may sell these to people who may use them. One feather has ended up in Iselda's shop, from someone willing to give them such a rare find. Iselda would have thought, what if, One day, a curious little big stumbles upon the shop, this vessel, lets call him- The knight, will stumble upon the shop having returned from buying a map, will think not much of a feather. So due to the sharp end at the bottom of the feather, Iselda decided it may be a good idea to make it a writing utencil. to go along the maps that her husband, cornifer, sells. She also offers other accesories, such as pins, and a compass, to go along with the map, so she assumed it would be a perfect fit
After doing the hollow knight without any charms healing and spells i kinda ran out of time playing this game, even tho i haven't even beaten grim/gotten the true ending/pantheon, with the other games i was playing but this is definitely something i want to come back for
Well Only 99999 more runs off this with a map And I should be able to atleast remember the whole map till Crystal peaks And thrice as much more till the end probably My fish brain will be filled with room layouts from now on
