Katherine, kudos to you for this excellent video. Undoubtedly the best tutorial I have found on RU-vid for MySQL and Workbench. I have learned so much here. I didn't even know the “back tick”; a small part of the tutorial but very useful to know. I am surprised that your Subscriptions are not in the tens of thousands.
Thanks for sharing this video! One question, in your ERD as posted on Blackboard, you say that a location can be occupied by zero or more employees. On the diagram produced by MySQL workbench, the same relationship is indicated with a minimum cardinality of one. That is, a location must at least be occupied by one employee. When, and how, do you impose the minimum cardinality of zero? Similarly, how do you impose the minimum cardinality of one?
Thanks! Great question - this video presents a very simplified version of the ERD to make it easier for beginners. To edit the relationship properties, right click a relationship line in the model and choose "Edit Relationship." Then you can check or uncheck the boxes marked "Mandatory" on either side and even swap between 1:1 and 1:M. Hope this helps.
As a follow-up to the "when" - this depends on the business rules. If when you add an employee record it has to be related to a location or position, location or position would be "required" or "min cardinality of 1."
