Loved Messi, admired Ronaldo, respected Zidane. But, I’ll never see anyone again with as commanding a presence on a football park in my lifetime. Diego Armando Maradona was the greatest!
@@ohtito2577 Of course. CR7 was brilliant, but that was Cristiano. There was only one Ronaldo, R9, the ‘Fenómeno’. My personal favourite was Maradona, the ‘heartbeat’ of every team he played for, so dominant.
I'm English and have no issue with Maradona or the hand of God goal. These things happen in football. And if we are being honest, there were probably 3 straight red card fouls against him by England players in that game before he even scored with his hand, or his second goal which was a masterpiece.
Agreed I remember watching as a kid and wasn't bothered by the hand of God , was first time watching football and Maradona mesmerised me ( as did Platini in that world cup ) ...true about the fouls Diego got in that game but also Hoddle was blatantly hacked down and no foul then Maradona scores about 10 seconds later
The English players(as did other nations players) spent the game trying to snap him and take him out the game instead of tackling him cos they couldn't get near him with fair challenges. Let's not get too fucking sanctimonious about fair play here 😂
I feel like I should say something sanctimonious here. I don't think English people hate Maradona. Whatever jokes or jibes were made at him, when he died, the talk in England was all about the loss of a football genius, and any replays of the cheating twat punching the ball into the net are nearly always accompanied by the other goal he scored that game, when he took the ball 60 yards, beating 5 defenders and the goalie. Pure genius. Also, I'd just like to point out that although Geoff Hursts shot in 1966 bounced outside the goal, if you watch the replay a few dozen times whilst having a few drinks, you can clearly see the ball spinning over the goal line whilst hurtling downwards off the bar. God Bless Maradona, God Bless Kazakhstan, and God bless our queer old dean. Huzzah!
It's nice to just make stuff up without being pulled up on it isn't it. See the first ten minutes and any fouls are part of the game at the time, in fact the Argies are equally if not worse. While a number of very fair tackles are made on him. These are then not comparable to blatantly handling the ball.
I've been at Hampden Park at the time, seen a best player of the football history about 5 meters away 😮 Couldn't get any closer as security stopped me 😢
I saw it live on TV. None of us understood in the moment it was not the head that sent that ball into the goal. He did outjump Shilton - look at the photo of the moment immortalized by Alejandro Ojeda Carbajal. It is clear though, that without the hand Maradona wouldn't have reached the ball. It is possible that the ref was tricked by the linesman assesment, it is also possible that he couldn't make himself call the goal off. In the end the better team won. Fairly? Nope.
I always suspected that the italian mafia, had stirred some pressure juice up to give the refereeing staff. Partly to make their starboy happy, and also cash in nicely on bets. There are more instances in the match, were ref is temporarily blind
@@shattered2137messi wouldn't have survived the rough and tumble of Diego's era. Built like a brick shithouse and gave it back . Plus what he did on the state of some of pitches he played on is staggering. Messi is simply amazing but for me Maradona is the goat. ..and I think messi would agree also .
We love making ourselves as the victim but would do the same without a second of thought. Maradona with his hand or with his foot is still considered by many as the(ir) greatest ever footballer. I stand with them!
More people pretending Messi doesn't even deserve a mention. Messi the goat and u know it, the speed and athleticism of the game are more intense now and Messi is insane and still makes it look easy at his age
Yes, that is right. Diego knew a lot about football but much more about social and cultural issues. He was a truly humble man, even when he touched de sky with his hand. Cheers from Buenos Aires-Argentina, and aguante Boca Juniors!!
@@12ezeesc so true about diego. delighted for argentina winning on sunday, happy for messi and the players, but more so for the fans, they in a way made the world cup, it was a great final, and the best team won. enjoy the celebrations my friend.
@@12ezeesc I'd heard that he would say that about us too but never knew for certain if it was true or not so I'm delighted you've confirmed it! I don't know if you guys truly know just how much we adored him in Scotland. I was devastated when he died. So happy you won the World Cup there. Diego would've had the biggest smile in heaven 🏴❤🇦🇷🏆🙏👏👏👏👏 🏴💩
I watch football since 1982. Maradona when was in his day was just unstoppable. And was very often in his day... Best footballer by far, at least since 1982, because I m too young to judge Pele, di Stefano, puskas and cruyf
True about the goal in 1966 it was inconclusive to give , saying that swings and roundabouts as Lampards "goal" against Germany in 2010 was a yard over the line and was never given
I’ll die happy having seen Diego and Messi do their magic two greatest Genius that the Almighty could give us ,God must be Argentine , we can only pray for another one to come along but unlikely
Best players I saw in my life, watching the sport since 1982: Maradona best of all. Then Socrates, Zico, rummenigge littbarski, Bruno conti, Laudrup, Hadji, stoichkov, Hugo sanchez, matheus, franchescoli, platini, van Basten, Roberto Baggio, Romario, Zidane, Rivaldo, Ronaldo the phenomenon, Roberto Carlos, pirlo, Ronaldinho, Messi, cr7, mbappe, Modric, Mario bassler, Klinsmann, Nesta, canavarro, buffon, stoikovic, lato, Schmeichel, elkjaer, Falcao (BR), seedorf, redondo, del Piero, xavi, careca, waddle, voller, kellemans, weah, jesper olsen, schiffo, riquelme, Batistuta, pfaf, valdano, anri, eto, benzema , cafu. If I had to choose two players after Diego, I would say Messi and Zidane.
Do you even know Diego's childhood?, is not fair to compair his personalitie with Messi or a lot more. Maradona grew up in a place without electricity, water, no nice bathroom only letrines outside his small house, he barely had food and clothes and he should MANTAINED his family, with BARELY 16 years old
@@zapre2284 Diego was a humble person surrounded for bad people that used him for his money and let him die, there is an investigation. He was an angel and a demon and whatever you like him or not, It doesn't change anything. BEST PLAYER EVER, NO ONE IS CLOSE TO HIM AT ALL FOR A LOT OF REASONS
I just love football. Cruyff, Beckembauer, Pelé, Maradona, Charlton, all the Ronaldos, Di Stéfano, Zidane, Eusebio, Gascoigne, Garrincha, Best, Paolo Rossi. The ones with more carisma... George Best, Maradona, Gascoigne, Cantona. I loves all of them. Regards from Argentine friends.
I believe he went on to say something to the effect of 'The English may hate me but the Scots love me'. He's still the best I've seen, a genius on the park both on the ball and off it.
English and Maradona's haters: CHEATER! AT LEAST DIEGO'S GOAL WENT IN SO GET OVER IT ALREADY!! His only mistake is that the country was Federal Germany, not Spain
1-1...& only a great clearance by B?...saved Argentina from a 2-2...after Lineker scored. Cheating the English is a worldwide passion. God has a lot to answer for...but he doesn't exist, does he/she/them...? Maradona was Argentinian...famous for their honesty & integrity...& uh...no, that's it!
Forest fan here...think Shilton has been let off his whole life with the Hand Of God thing...6ft and he's jumping with his outstretched arm...and STILL Diego beats him to it...
Nobody outside of Argentina knew about Maradona when that war took place. The hand of god goal happened years after the war - maybe it was his revenge for the war.
Both his goals against England were special. I watched the game, England were never in it. England werre fortunate to get out if their group and the better team won the QF.
what is HGH? Maradona was better than messi considering how horribly he was beaten down without the referee interfeering, the mud of the pitches he played on, no physio, heavy ball...the list goes on
@@sanderoscmar5720 human growth hormone. Also though - no drug testing or VAR in maradona’s time. That would have exposed his doping and ‘Hand of God’ goal.
