New subscriber. Well done Sir. Been looking on this Site for a person such as yourself. I am 61, FM Tuner maniac, 5 Kenwood, 3 Pioneer, 2 Yamaha, 1 Akai, 1 SUMO and 1 Sanyo and just bought a Marantz 2100. Mainly because in my area commercial free Jazz station and with a analog FM Tunes (pegging 5 signal strength) the sound is incredible. So far my Pioneer TX 9500 MKII is my favorite. Much prefer a FM Tuner and Integrated Amp over a stereo receiver.
Tuner issues can be tough without the proper test equipment. I do show in the Marantz 2265B series on using a tuner substitute made from a gutted receiver. Good way to eliminate issues in the front end.
A lot of work with this Marantz tuner, but with a good result. In this situation why not suspect that the local oscillator is detuned? Someone could have manipulated it. Or a problem with the J-FET RF input amplifier?
Thanks for running these Ray. Tuners are not my strong point whatsoever and been wanting to get into them. Got a handful of vintage receivers that I’ve resurrected/rebuilt and all of them need serious tuner help.
I have a 1991 Hitachi stereo system and I have a similar type problem with the radio section. When I turn on the radio, there will be static and crackling on all wavebands, but then I will turn the machine off and on again, sometime later and all the stations will work . . . and on all wavebands, but it will then slowly fade out after about two minutes and it's back to static and crackling again. Any idea what might cause this?
