I was a young A/V tech when these receivers came out, back then new they were not cheap but todays prices are just plain crazy. They are far easier to repair than todays models where you have to fully disassemble them to replace the faulty components. I much prefer the smooth warm sound they produce compared to more modern receivers that tend to be harsh and bright sounding.
I've got a Marantz 4240. Still love it. Volume control is scratchy. The owner manual recommends you do not use 4 ohm speakers when running in bridged mode. I never tried it with my AR-3a's. Always use AR-6's for rear channels. Needs a few new bulbs. But if it ain't broken don't mess with it My other AR's are using a NAD 100w per channel amp.
How do the AR pair with it? Match made in heaven im assuming?? I havent got the chance to own a pair yet! Im sure ill find a set locally at the right price at some point. The wife says i have to stop “wasting money” so i have to chill out a little haha its getting harder to sneak these in without them being noticed
Yup. Love my 4300. Totally an unsung legend. Biggest down fall with quads is repair bills. You have 4 of everything rather than 2. Fortunately I repaired everything on my 4300.
did a bay search just now in 2023, first listing of a 4400 $8500.00 4 listed ,all over 2700.00 I have sansui and pioneer quad units. I listen to quad vinyl.
I bought my Marantz quad 4270 new in 1976. It is a very awesome reciever The built in quad dimension gives really cool quad affects from 2 channel material. I added a Marantz 140 amp to give it higher power in quad than the 4400. 75 watts per channel in quad . It is a true powerhouse. It has really warm sound .
No brainer. You let out all the secrets! Agree on all you said. Sleeper. Better looking than 2270, 2285 0r others at a super price. 4 channel may have more issues, but worth the gamble. Big full bodied sound like vintage McIntosh.Stupid prices and internet hype on the 2270 and others. This one beats it hands down. More buttons/knobs and the sound is not degraded vs 2 channel. I have the unit and have demoed it against many others, it is a fine unit.
I have a Marantz 4240 that is amazing. It needs some love but that will come. Would love to more about the 4xxxx since most videos are about the 2xxx series

In the 70s I had a passing acquaintance w/ a young millionaire from one of America' first industrial families. Could've had anything he wanted.I remember him beaming w/ pride upon his purchase of one of these "Gyro Touch" Marantz receivers!
5, wow, that's fantastic! I had 4 - 4400's in near perfect shape with working scopes. I now have 3 in a tri-amp configuration (treble, mid, bass) in 4 channel Variable Matrix mode with a combined wattage of 600 watts RMS. Large room, 10 full range speakers plus 2 subs-- It rocks! The sound is super clear, unbelievably full, very intensive and extremely loud! About as close to a live performance as you're gonna get. Presently, I'm in the process of full restoration on the 1st of my 3 units. I'm pushing 70, but I still like to rock and roll to tunes from the 60's, 70's, 80's and early 90's! I'm always showing it off and I drive my wife crazy too. LoL
I have a 4400 & 2275 & 2, 6300 turntables, The only issue I have is the volume control gets noisy & the pitch controls on the tables do not hold the speed correctly, DeoxIT D5 & F5 sprayed on these controls yearly makes then operate as new again. I have 8 full range speakers plus 2 subs-- It lbs! The sound is distortion free, super clean, very powerful! The SPL's produced is sonically like Studio 54, U feel the sound as much as U hear it
every two channel receiver with A/B channels is a Quadraphonic Receiver. get really good 3way speakers all 4 must be the same put one in each corner when you hook up the speakers on B channel all you do is put the right in the left and the left in the right. that was how Quadraphonic sound was done all they did was do it for you inside the receivers when people found out about it they stopped buying Quadraphonic receivers and that was the end of Quadraphonic receivers & advertisement
@@rockrollhi-figuy6824 I'm sure you have now get another Marantz receiver from that time with A/B channel and the same specs get 8 of the same 3way speakers put 4 on each receiver all in the same room do exactly what i describe in my first comment with the A/B channel receiver make sure both bass and treble are set the same on both and all speaker adjustments on the quad are in the center then get a remastered recording of the one you have in quadraphonic have someone play each one on each receiver back to back for you without telling you which one is which then play Enigma MCMXC a.D. on both receivers all thing's will be made clear
