There is a bit of trial and error involved with this technique and you'll likely need to use less dye than you think! It's a great way to add a pop of color to your candles but keep in mind that if you'll be using soy wax, frosting will likely occur over time. Paraffin or parasoy wax might be the way to go for a more vibrant color.

I make a lot of marbled candles. I use 464 and the marble effect will eventually bleed into the wax as it sits on the shelf waiting to be bought. it also frosts pretty badly especially if you re heat it. if you actually add the dye before it gets cold then you get way less frosting but in the end the marble effect will bleed and the candle will almost become a solid color when using a soft soy wax. it's frustrating to take the time to to make these then a couple months goes by and they look awful. now if they sell quickly and get lit then there is no issue but they have very short shelf life as far as looking pretty

These are great points! Frosting in the soy wax plays a huge role in the overall look of the candles and the re-heating is the culprit here. It can be harder to get consistent, lasting results. Paraffin works a bit better for getting more defined patterns but you're right, for soy they might be better for small batches so they do not sit on the shelf for as long which can absolutely be frustrating!

What’s the name of the tool used to pierce the wax and used to deposit dye please?

Here I had used our digital thermometer but you could use a skewer or similar tool as well! www.candlescience.com/equipment/5-digital-thermometer/?variant=1-pc-thermometer

can you use a blow dryer?
@candlescience
@candlescience 9 месяцев назад
You can! The biggest issue is usually that the air blows too hard on some settings and it may spray the wax. I'd test out different heat settings and the distance you hold it from your candles first in a safe area.

What size is the wick you are using for that candle?
@candlescience
@candlescience Год назад
I used a CD 8 wick with 464 wax. Depending on the type and amount of dye used, you may need to adjust the wick but a burn test will be the best way to see if it's necessary.
