This was a great Film and Marc Anthony did an awesome, Awesome Job...Jennfier Lopez was great too. This film was overlooked and it was overlooked on purpose...He did the film and the soundtrack alot of justice.
Let's see the facts: The first album of Marc Anthony is in 1988, when Jennifer has not started at all. His first hit was in 1991 - house music, 1993 is his first big salsa hit. In 1997, they called him the new king of salsa! At that time, Jennifer still is dreaming of singing. She herself has said that she was a fan of Marc long before their meeting and said that he wanted her to participate in his video and she was blackmailing him to sing with her.

Raul Carbonnel Jr did an awesome job, La India was producing a film on Hector Lavoe; the trailer is featured on youtube, but the film won't be released because of the budget reportedly. it's a shame because Hector Lavoe's story really needs to be told. He was a million times more than what was portrayed on film about him. I loved El Cantante though, and im grateful for both Marc and Jen because it was through them, that i discovered Hector, He was The Man.
JLo is his second wife...his first was Dayanara Torres, former Miss Universe. He has two children with his first wife and two with Jlo. He never married his first daughter's (Ariana's) mother, when she got pregnant but they decided to keep the baby...
He`s not ugly emphatically!!!! Steven Tyler is ugly but Marc Anthony just not pretty! He`s sexy, masculine and he has an intelligent radiating. I am absolute agree that he has a great personality.
What you say is almost true for the U.S.. For the rest of the world is not the case. The truth is that Marc Anthony was a highly respected musician long before Jennifer and continues to be. Jennifer has always been respected primarily because of her ambition. And that fact that she is a very good business woman and knows how to sell her products. There is a difference and it is huge.
why insult Jennifer to say he is amazing? It is just a horrible thing to do. They are two distinct people, even when they were married. Jennifer can act, sing, and dance. She also has the biggest drive and work ethic. People need to quit putting her down.

Marc dances very well let's say in a particular way, he can sell his stuff just because he has a team of people around him. That is fact too. I am not offended by that. There have been so many things said about her voice. Yes, her voice is not as good as Marc's and they sing very differently but she does sing well and can sing. She has always been hugely criticized yet 30 years later she is still here and very very relatable. She broke down barriers and opened doors for herself nobody opened them for her. As Ben said they were openly mean and degrading to her. Racist and sexist things said to her. She is an amazing dancer, actress, singer, business woman and ICON.
I'd heard of El Cantante being made back around '99. These films take an awfully long time. When is the film about "La Reina de Salsa" Celia Cruz going to be made? This film brought Hector Lavoe's legacy to this generation, and brought a renewed appreciation. Que descanse en paz...
idk why everyone makes fun of them i actually feel like theyre one of the few real couples in hollywood. i love jen and marc together, even thoughi feel like he loves her more than she does him, but still. marcs so real and i love it :)
i agree, even Ike Turner was humanized in "What's Love..." Prior to this film, i never heard of Hector Lavoe unfortunately; but i will say this- This Man's Music is so FELT, i mean...Wow! im in Awe of Him and His Voice, Hector was special. His life saddens me. Him & Marvin Gaye are alot alike. They had their demons, yet, brought so much joy to the world thru their music. Once i heard his song El Cantante, it was like i heard him for a lifetime. Real Heartfelt Music does it to you everytime.
@mamc1986 -- This is VERY true. He's quiet but he is known to be comical like Jennifer. He is so nervous when he does interviews that it makes the view nervous!
PS: Jennifer is not the smartest woman in the world,but she still got some intelligence so she would not risk to say something like that.Marc too long continuously supported her in the media, explaining what an incredible singer,woman,mother etc she is (which he does for everyone who loves),so it would be very bad publicity for her.Considering that Marc refuses public battles (which she tried to start up),she probably just would not risk to look cheap and pathetic.I still have a hope.I like her.

This film is not made to tell the whole story of Hector. This film was made to promote the music of Hector Lavoe, and to acquaint the younger generation with this artist. They was work with film techniques, rather than with the story. That they did - increased several times sales of music Lavoe. If the other film was developed - it now would be another case. This is not a film to promote Hector, but is movie for fans of Hector. These are very different goals and therefore very different films.
@boomerxxo -- It's called OBSESSED JEALOUSY that is why people TRY to make fun of them. Marc used to love Jen more than she did but she realizes that she has a real man who not only loves her but Protects her and the family life.............Great, great, and funny couple.
Funny how you accept the vision of the gossip magazines about him. You have not lived with Marc, right? So, shut up for his personality, because you didn't know him. Jennifer has undoubted talent to be successful. Her other talents just serviced this talent of her. So probably would be successful regardless of the circumstances. Marc just gives her substance and value. Otherwise she would be just a successful show girl, in fact it is very questionable whether she is a true artist.

@bun223 well what show were you watching cause they were very into eachother we might not know the real reason they split but we know what we've read and wat "they said" and from what i've read which you can find it anywhere they broke up because of the media not cause they wanted to and if you didnt notice both couples are or in jens case were very private with their marriages. Jennifer never said that he is controlling! I'm a fan of Marc, and he very long time continuously urging fans to support Jennifer, so I'm used to watch her. Now not so much. Of course,she make a very poor first interview after split, but even in that, she never said that he is controlling! Marc was never ever discussed in the media negatively Jennifer. Even in the interview after the breakup. If she ever say anything like what you say, she will be the most pathetic excuse for a human being!
