Celtics fan here. Paid a little more attention to the Grizzlies when Tony Allen got to Memphis, and remembered when they were knocking out San Antonio, LAC, and OKC who were all juggernauts in that time. Makes me shed a tear how much of a tight-knit group they still are seeing all the old faces showing up for this, and you can tell how much the city loved them and they all played their heart out for the city. Congrats Marc!
@@xxgoonxx2133if D12 is also a legend in Spain as you said, and has had the same international impact on the US team as Marc has had on the Spanish team, then he will get in for his international achievements. Marc was either the #1 or #2 player on several (more than 4 or 5) Spanish international competition squads. If D12 was the top 3 player on Team USA in 4 or 5 tournaments, then the comparison is accurate, and he should get in. Also, the Hall of Fame is for impact on the game of basketball, and Marcs impact on the game in Spain is bigger.
As a Kings fan, he was a force to be reckoned with. He took the Grizzlies to Western Conference Finals. Greatest player ever to play for Memphis Grizzlies. He was all about the team. Unselfish, plays the game right way. Best defender. Was clutch also. Marc Gasol, Mike Conley, Zach Randolph and Tony Allen were best friends. Their best career was in Memphis.
@@brandoe578but "Marc's Grizzlies" didn't. Marc and the Core Four wanted to win one in Memphis. In the Blevins documentary, Marc had the parade route all planned out in his head.
@@XunknownBrazyXplayed good teams, had injuries to Mike and TA, had a Zbo suspension, were decimated by injuries in 2016, but were slow in picking up new talent. They needed to promote Kleiman and his scouting system earlier.
Marc Gasol was that dude in Memphis. He changed the entire franchise and the entire city of Memphis and even took them to the Western Conference Finals in 2013. Marc Gasol deserves this moment for real, and now we need Mike Conley, Zach Randolph, and probably Tony Allen to have their jerseys retired too. The Grit and Grand era was amazing to watch. The Memphis Grizzlies was not an easy them to beat at all woth that squad because their defense was so good
@@ethanallen7787 PAU put Memphis in the map. Rookie of the year, All Star, and bring the team to the playoff...ok, didn't won a series Game, but they puta they there and bring people to see games And in the trade for him you get Marc
Los Gasol estarán ligados a esta franquicia por siempre enhorabuena Marc Gasol por la extraordinaria carrera tanto en la NBA como con la selección española ❤❤❤
It wasnt just some of the greatest basketball this city has ever seen, it was one of the most distinguishing team identities in the NBA for a decade. It was an identity, a style, a catch phrase that perfectly personified the team and the city, and the NBA took notice. One thing that made Doris Burke stand out and made me respect her more than others was that she made several efforts to highlight that, she knew how special it was, when she interviewed Grizz players. Grit and Grind brought more respect to Memphis from the rest of the NBA.
Los Angeles resident and of course lifetime Laker fan but, always respected this Memphis team. I loved that they had an IDENTITY…Grit & Grind. Today’s fame is all copycat of the Warriors. Wish more teams paid attention to their players strengths and build identity through them. Had no idea Marc was the vocal leader of the team. Makes him even more badass. Always knew he was one of the elite high IQ players. Glad he got his ring because its obvious he put everything into winning.
So beautiful to see the daughter crying emotional all the time in the last segment after the tribute video, so proud of her dad, so young and still so conscious of how important is this already. Hope she grows up as a great basketball player too.
Love you always Marc... thank you for everything you've done for Memphis!! So proud of you bro. I'd give you the shirt off my back mane. Grit n Grind forever!!!
¡Enhorabuena Marc, muy merecido! ❤ Es el reconocimiento que te mereces por tu extraordinaria trayectoria profesional en la NBA y la selección española. Futuro Hall of Fame❤
We've already seen what happens when Gasol is matched up vs Embiid, look at the Raptors-Sixers series in 2019 playoffs, Marc completely neutralized him.
Y’know who we should really be thanking the most? KWAME BROWN. Because if his hands weren’t too small, if he could catch the basketball, if he could move, if he knew what he was doing, if he had a post move to put to memory that he could do two-times in a row…. Then maybe, just maybe the Lakers would have kept him, and not gotten Pau, and then the Grizzlies wouldn’t have traded for him for essentially Marc. And who knows? Maybe on the rare chance, Marc doesn’t flourish into the player he would become on some other team.
@@Mr.Midnight06 naw tony don’t got the stats like Mike Conley and I’m pretty sure this will be Mike Conley last year Mike Conley leads them in games played assist 3 pointers and points plus steals
Good on Marc, he deserves it.. But someone correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t you think to many numbers are being retired through the league and in all sports in general? Not gonna be any left pretty soon
I don't wanna hear anybody complaining about my magic retiring anybody's number. If Marc Gasol gets his jersey retired by Memphis any Team is free to pick whoever they want
Grizzlies are a great organization and i love pau gasol for me he is the best grizzlie ever. But Marc dont deserve this sorry he is a role player nothing more.
