My course offered me the chance to work hands-on with cars and learn how to be a mechanic, which was great because it meant I'd be doing something different from school, and it was a job I'd always wanted to get into.
The Motor Vehicle facilities in Kempston were really good to learn in, and just like a real, working garage, with stuff like modern diagnostic tools and cars of different ages to work on.
The best thing though was definitely the tutors - they really treated me with respect and were great fun to work with. They'd all worked in garages too so had real experience of what they were teaching. What I really liked was that they always made sure I knew the reason why we were doing something, instead of just teaching us to do it.
Thanks to my course I'm now working as a mechanic at a local garage, which is my first job since leaving college. I get involved with a lot of jobs like clutches, cam-belts and services. It's a really good first step for me and I couldn't have got here without the course.
