Mr. Petitjean, Seeing your work of art creation, is a most powerful moment in my life. My career in Architecture has always been detailing and solving problems (35 years). I had the opportunity to solve a detail configuration of a metal skin panel that the company's own engineers could not. (Enrico panels) they needed the horizontal joint to be the same as the vertical joint, and after weeks of chasing it down, I accomplished it. It was first used at the International Airport in Las Vegas. This and many other problems solved not only in architecture but solar power and fuel devices, In third world countries, India especially. No one but another detailer or engineer such as you could ever appreciate any of this. I say this to put in context, how much I LOVE and appreciate every single minute detail of this vise, absolutely incredible. I do not know what the cost is, but whatever it is, it is money very well spent and earned. I first tied a fly when I was 10 years old, I looked at a book in the library reference area full of BEAUTIFUL Flys. I went home, took a hook, some red thread and trimmed hair off our dog. It took two days without any vise. I love fishing and the hunt of fishing, I have always (obviously) had a passion for Flys and jigs. FINALLY at 63, I am wholeheartedly pursuing my dreams. My life statement has been ... "there is ALWAYS a better way!" Thank you again Sir from the essence of my core. Nick De Luca in Redfield Arkansas, USA ( P.S. for anyone reading this and laughs at it, you are forgiven, and your welcome)

I have the chance, I say the chance, to use one of these since two years, and it is really fantastic. Of course this piece is certainly expensive, but I think that this type of vice is for life. It is a real pleasure to use such a piece of art (It is true piece of art but also a piece of very high technology) the design is outstanding. Materials are incredible. All of Petitjean pieces are the same, the bobin holder for example is the same. Thank you Marc for all of these pieces. For me the best vice in the world.

I'm very happy to have bought this vise, it's great! Best part is that as I get better at fly tying I'll be able to get more use out of this vise because it's capabilities are beyond my abilities. Plus it's durable. The very first thing I did when I got it, was dropped the top part of the vise onto the floor from about 4ft and that did absolutely nothing to it. I don't suggest dropping it but I've got butter fingers and now I'm not worried about damaging it hahaha. I've tied 60 flies now and have been posting them on my Instagram. I love every minute of it honestly! Looking forward to getting some more bells and whistles for it, like the bobbin rest, tool rest, pedestal, gallows system etc. I travel a lot so it will be nice to have the pedestal so I can use it on the road where I can't clamp it down.

Fantastic piece, top notch engineering. Been a Dyna King fan for many years, very satisfied with my Barracuda. But this is another level, with so many features and details - and especially how you can adjust it for more comfortable tying positions at the bench. I'm impressed and really have to get this. Hope it's possible from a shop/webshop in Norway. If you have any idea I would be grateful. Thanks for sharing Barry.

I used a Swiss Master vise/outfit for the first time last week. The left-hand orientation doesn't seem to be a problem - you get used to it, although it's unnecessarily silly in a mostly right-handed world. I had it for five days, and I liked it a lot - BUT. My LAW jaws on their articulated arm offer a better all-round approach to the hook. Agreed, I'm wedded to the LAW which quickly became an extension of me. LAW hype is all justified. Owners want to be buried with theirs. If you can't find an original LAW (it'll be a huge price but will never be worth less than you pay for it) or a super quality copy (still expensive) then the Swiss vice is probably the best alternative. Significantly, if you want a Swiss you just write a check. If we want a LAW you learn how to plead, and to pray. Exchanging a kidney might work. If you can't afford either, then you are amongst the vast majority, and there's not much point in saying your Thompson can do it all just as well. Similarly, there's little point in saying your Ford gets you to work just as surely as a Rolls Royce. It does, but ............you know.

Opinione modesta la mia...non mi sembra che tutte quelle regolazioni portino a una facilità di costruzione solo a una complicanza...il prezzo del morsetto e' alto. Curious...there are certain industries with names so powerful that putting the names on an object will increase the price 10 fold. "Wedding" is one, take a 100 dollar dress, put that word on it and its price goes up to 1000. "Fly tying" is certainly another.

@hectatusbreakfastus6106
@hectatusbreakfastus6106 3 года назад
One thing I am curious about is in the comments about this vise you say it is the best vice you have ever owned. In your walk through of your tying room you said that you use a regal revolution for all your production tying. Is it because of the easy clamp for the regal revolution that you use it for production tying? I can certainly see the advantages to the Swiss Vice over the revolution. I'm just wondering why you use the revolution for mass production tying, which I am assuming means making multiples of the same type. Has this changed and you now use the Swiss Vice for production? I have noticed that in all your videos you are using the Swiss Vice. I'll probably just have to settle and get both :p They both seem to have different strengths.
@Thefeatherbender
@Thefeatherbender 3 года назад
Hi, I choose the Swiss vice over any other because it just does everything that I need it to do, on every type of fly and then some! When I am production tying (making multiples) I use the Regal because it is ultra quick to mount and dismount all hook sizes without making any adjustments. But none of the Regals are true rotary and on many patterns this is a great advantage.

How does the Swiss vise compare with Dyna-King's ultimate indexer?
@Thefeatherbender
@Thefeatherbender 6 лет назад
Hi Roger, you can't compare them, the Dyna-king Ultimate indexer I also have and have used. I had problems with the DK, the jaws where not tempered correctly and every hook I placed in them made a indentation in the jaws! I contacted DK and explained the problem. They were not interested, said they would replace them, and I ended up paying for new jaws that where just as bad as the first ones. You can read my review of the DKUI on my flitting blog.thefeatherbender.com/2012/11/30/dyna-king-ultimate-indexer/

Hear! hear! I bought the DK Excalibur this year and was very disappointed with its ability to hold hooks securely. I dug my hole deeper and bought the midge jaws, no better. It's a very well made vise and I loved everything else about it - but I had to move on. In my opinion, anyone that usually ties sizes #12 and smaller should look elsewhere.

This is a great looking vise, I wouldn't compare it to my existing one (I was lucky enough to purchase a vise when LAW was still making them) but for me the one design feature that I don't quite get - it seems designed for left handed tiers with the jaw adjustment screw placement? As a right handed tier, don't you have to reach over the jaws to fiddle with the adjustment screw? I guess you get used to vices and their peculiarities, my left hand just has muscle memory and It can sit/twist the vice without me noticing when I tie on mine. Also, have you thought about designing your own? CNC shops can create prototypes quickly and even open source CAD software is certainly at a point where it could easily be used for tying vise design.
@Thefeatherbender
@Thefeatherbender 3 года назад
Hi Michael, yes we all have different needs when it comes to a vice, for me this works much better than my LAW. I have 33 vices of varying quality and this is the best, currently for me. Yes Marc designed this for himself, left handed, and it was annoying to start with but I got him to make the the jaw adjustment screw a little larger and that works better.
