I can tell you guys. Coming from a comic convention, when you meet these guys and ask them to sketch something for you. If, IF!!!, they say yes, they will sketch the quickest, simplest piece of art they can think of. They're not going to sit there and create a work of art just for you. It's time consuming, you're nothing special and there are other people in line to see him. The drawing isn't crap, it's just quick and to the point.
And these fan sketches aren't meant to be detailed works of art. They are just expanded signatures for people that ask for them. It's nice that he even does them for fans, and god knows how many he does each day he's at a convention.
Now that is a true master, when he can start out with a Sharpie and still have it look proportionate and just plain epic. I love how he drew the imps in the Darkness comics not to mention he made Jackie so flipping fierce looking while in Darkness mode.
Funny. The guys videoing him drawing, and Marc Silvestri's chatting, chatting for awhile, while the video guy got his camera focused on one drawing of an eye
I'm hoping to get a sketch from him in two weeks at NYCC and I haven't figured out what I want him to draw for me. I hope he won't be too expensive cus I'm only bringing about $200, maybe $250.
You know how many times he draws that exact same sketch? He's probably not even thinking about it or putting any creative thought behind doing it. He's talking to his fans, answering questions, and just doing it. It's NOT supposed to be an impressive display of artistry. Like I said, it's just an extended signature. That's it. You can call it a sketch, but it's not even a real "sketching" of some amazing idea he's trying to rough out. He's just going through the motions.
I met him once at Comic Con in 'Dallas. He was a very friendly person and even sketched a picture of Lara Croft for me. At the time, Top Cow comics was doing occasional crossovers with Tomb Raider and Witchblade.
If you read my comment - I never stated he is not a legend. I am just commenting what I see in this video - does not matter to me who's hand it is. I am an illustrator myself. And I am not a legend. Not even world famous. But I can say for sure, that the way he drew this is .. ah, nevermind. I am a hater :) right!
But that's what I mean - every art school student knows how to sketch - you don't start with one detail and then draw the rest. Some teenagers on the internet who copy other artists work do so.. but not a proffesional artist. C'mon
Disappointing. He's my 2nd favorite artist after Jim Lee, and I expected a different process in terms of time but still. The hair covering one eye is a common cheat.
looked very unprofessional... looks like an amateur is drawing this - starting with the eye and then step by step doing the rest like all these copycats here on youtube - a true artist would draw everything at the same time
