I'm warming up to the fabrics being from JoAnn; it does mean that they're likely to be readily available either in-store or online, and probably on sale to boot. And they do choose pretty, well-coordinated fabrics for the projects. The yellow trim really makes the little leaves on the bird fabric pop, for example. Personally I'd still prefer more exclusive materials, but the fact that they aren't isn't bugging me so much as it originally did. Yes, a more yellow-yellow would have been better however I do like the orange-y one too. (The yellow-yellow would go better with the thread they sent, too. IIRC I mentioned the color mismatch between fabric & thread in my comment on your unboxing video for this one but I'm too lazy to go over there & check.) The baskets are a good size; bigger than I expected. They'd be good for holding "things that are small but you often have many of them" such as wonder clips, hair ties, or wrapped candies. A slightly stiffer interfacing would have been good, or perhaps an extra layer of the one that came with the project, just to give it a bit more body. I did get a chuckle when you said you had nothing in front of you to show scale, and then tossed in a measuring tape instead of, you know, measuring the baskets... But I get it, sometimes an object for comparison does a better job than written dimensions. It's dismaying that the precuts were so inaccurate; totally negates the "you don't have to measure" aspect of having them. Additionally if one doesn't have the experience or math skills to figure out the problem, it might completely turn that person off from ever wanting to sew again. Such a shame. Yes, circles are indeed weird. I find using a circumference calculator to be very handy, although of course you do have to remember to adjust for seam allowance before plugging in your numbers. (For example, if you know your circle has a diameter of 5" and the project uses a 1/4" seam allowance, you'd enter 4.5" in the diameter box, then add 1/4" to the resulting circumference to get the length needed for your cylinder strip.) This one is my favorite, as you only need to know one dimension of the circle (diameter, radius, circumference, or area) and it calculates the rest for you: www.omnicalculator.com/math/circumference And I had the same issues with Every Plate that you did with Hello Fresh. We cancelled our subscription after they sent us a box that had a package of meat in it which had leaked all over the other ingredients.
I think I would be more onboard with the Joann fabrics if the box were not so expensive. Even if we said that I received a full yard of fabric, which i definitely did not, the value would be less than $10 and I don't think the rest of the box would equal the difference. Let's hope the next boxes are better. I am a things that fit kind of person, so that's my default. You could give me dimensions or square footage any day and I would need to see something in it to understand scale. I liked Meal Kits but the quality of ingredients really fell off for me and I would be fuming if meat leaked in my box too. I'm sure you're going to like next weeks SC Review, it's a far more positive one.
Maybe it's time they were outed for poor quality sub boxes, for a small business there is no effort, not worth the money, they should be embarrassed sending that out. I don't normally speak like that but it hits a nerve. Happy talk now, your own basket turned out the best, I have never sewn a round basket, it is something I'd like to try and you shared some good tips on that, thank you. I kind of choose the easy way and paper piece, recent project (practiced with fabric I had kicking around) is a small hexagon box. I reckon mastering a round on a machine is difficult enough without a wonky pattern and fabric. You worked hard on the baskets you done well with what you'd been given. Thank you, I really enjoy my basket now that it's finished. As you mentioned before, there are a bunch of round basket tutorials but if you want one you can trust, I would suggest Minki Kim here on RU-vid, she makes really great stuff.
They are known for errors on patterns and low in quality overall . I got this subscription for 3 months ( gift ) . I find no accuracy on the pre cut pieces .
I was so excited to try out a new box and the idea of precuts really interested me. I am really sad that this box isn't working out for me. I am going to stick out the 6 month subscription but at this point I doubt I am going to continue past that.
I canceled my subscription because the instructions were so bad and the fabric was majorly disappointing. It was like the cheapest stuff from Joann's in often blah or repeating fabrics. And you're right - it's the owner who does the paid promo unboxing videos, pretending to be an actual customer, which is ridiculous.
It makes me sad that this box seems to be universally terrible. I had such high hopes for it. I’m still in it for 4 more months so hopefully I can find something redeemable 🤞you’re right about the fabric too, I found most of the ones I received this weekend for $3 a yard. It’s just so disappointing
