We are still in March, so it counts!
Sorry this is so late everyone, I’ve been choked with a chest infection and started a brand new career 🙃
Here, by request, is a tutorial on the 3-colour snake belly. Below you’ll find how to calculate your cord measurements and a reminder of a few key points (including my own mistakes so you can avoid them!)
Calculations:
First, measure your pet’s neck (N) and add 1 inch
Colour 1: N x 1.25 = length in feet
Example: 10 inches (N) x 1.25 = 12.5 feet of cord
Colour 2 & 3: N x 0.85 = length in feet
Note Colour 1 attaches to your buckle
Key Points:
Don’t tighten the initial loop you create when setting up - your cord ends will go through this when we finish off
Don’t worry about tightening too much - there will be a small gap, this will be covered during the second step of the braid (the V part of the heart shape)
Push the braid up every now and then to create more room, this will prevent your collar from feeling loose - it makes no difference to the strength of your collar, it just makes it feel more robust

Finally! Any requests please pop them below. I will be more on the ball with April’s videos, I promise!

I have recently found your tutorials on RU-vid and they are brilliant thank you for sharing. Please can you tell me what width paracord you use and where the best place is to buy it from? Thank you

Thank you so much! I buy mine from Etsy as I find the price very similar to wholesalers. The width is completely your preference, calculating the measurements is the same regardless of the size of the paracord, but in this video I use type 3 (also known as 550) and it’s 4mm wide. I use this for my bigger collars. I use type 1 for my cat collars. If you want to make smaller dog collars I would use type 2 if your buckle is around 5/8 of an inch (16mm). I use type 3 for 20-25mm (3/4-1”) buckles. Hope all that makes sense!

Hi could you help me with the measurements please. My dogs neck is 24 inches. And I’m lost with the measurements 😢

Of course! I always add 0.5-1 inch to the neck measurement to account for the thickness of the braid (1 inch if they’re fluffy) Colour 1 is the colour attached to your buckle. The length is the neck measurement x 1.25 (24.5 x 1.25 = 30.6) The end number is the length of cord in feet. So 30.6 feet (although it’s probably easier to just go with 30.5 as it’s easier to measure!) Colour 2 & 3 is the neck measurement x 0.85 (24.5 x 0.85 = 20.8 or 21 feet of cord) So overall for your dog you’ll need: Colour 1: 30.5 feet of cord Colour 2: 21 feet of cord Colour 3: 21 feet of cord

Hello! Nice video but would it be possible to also give us the measurements in centimeters? That would be great! 👍

Hi, even though I’m Scottish and we use cm for everything else I usually work with inches in anything crafty as it’s easier for me! But for cm I think the easiest way is to multiply by 12 for every cm of collar. So a 10cm collar x12 = 120cm cord. I haven’t tested this though so take it with a pinch of salt!

Can you also make this knot on a ropehalter?
@d.i.ypetaccessories
@d.i.ypetaccessories 2 месяца назад
Hi, absolutely! I’d definitely recommend pushing the braid up as you go to make it feel sturdier and prevent gapping as the horse moves. If your horse wears halters while in the field it may trap dirt in between. The way I clean my collars is to let them soak in warm water with washing powder and then again in fresh water before lying flat to dry

@@d.i.ypetaccessories thank you! Do you happen to know how to make that start on a rope halter? the design is different from a collar... and I don't understand it at all

Do you mean for the adjustable head strap that doesn’t have hardware on one end? Or just the shape in general?

@@d.i.ypetaccessories I mean the beginning for the braid, how to make it on a rope halter, because it is of course different from a collar how you start it
