I cannot describe the number of times I have searched and searched for how-to videos, only to find either a video showing something similar but not quite right, or no videos at all! So I decided late one night that I'll be the one to post the how-to videos I was searching for. Want to learn how to make dog collars, leads, bandanas, toys and more? Whether it’s just for you or for a business you want to start - I am here for you! Or maybe you’ve fallen down the rabbit hole and think ‘actually, these are super cute, but in no way am I doing it myself!’ Then check out my Facebook and Instagram page, and my Etsy shop The Vanity Fur Co.
Hi, I have another video that shows how to do this set up. I use a shorter piece of cord so you can see easier! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6WdwJaZk0wQ.htmlsi=Tiki-2v98LFMHUuc Hopefully this is clearer ☺️
Hi, both strings are paracord. For the flowers I have used type 3 (550) which is 4mm wide. You can also use type 2 (3mm wide) or type 1 (2mm wide) if you are making a smaller or thinner collar. For threading the beads I use a paracord called microcord because it is strong and it’s all I had! But you can use regular string. Paracord melts which is why I use it, regular string won’t. I hope that all makes sense!
Hello on the other side of the screen 👍 Just have to ask - is it para cord Cotton cord can't quite figure it out 🙈✏️ It's a collar for my cat. But thinking 3mm for flowers 📍is it 3mm string all the way through? sorry, I ask, is the same thread you use for the beads? And thanks for the answer 🙌 I think I'm reasonable haha
Thank you ☺️ for this collar I used a 20mm buckle and 550 paracord. If you were to make it for a smaller dog I would use a 15mm buckle and 475 paracord. It’s really personal preference as the cord and buckles have high breaking strengths. I usually use bigger buckles for bigger dogs!
I believe I got these from beads unlimited, but I searched for shamballa-style beads and then the size I wanted. These are 10mm but I would try to get 8mm if you can as these are just a tad too big (for my liking anyway!)
How do you get both ends to look the same with the lark heads knot? I thinking I am doing the male part of the clip backwards, the little plastic clips are extremely difficult. I love your tutorial. You didn't use centimeters for the measurements. Thank you!
I have another video showing the set up with shorter cord so it’s easier to see. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6WdwJaZk0wQ.htmlsi=fRaFJLxhcccGoVka I’m thinking about redoing this video to make this part clearer for everyone.
Beautiful video, lighting and commentary! I greatly appreciate the amount of time you took to clearly illustrate each individual step. I have seen other videos of the same weave and couldn’t figure the path of each strand. Thanks so much 👍
It depends on where you are from, I find the best ones from paracord.eu but they can have a high delivery charge if you just want a couple of things. If you are looking to just make collars for your own pets etsy can actually have some good hardware. The best thing to do is just sit and search and compare prices to where you live!
Brilliant video but if you put both buckles at both ends, how do you braid? What am i missing? Or did you put that in the beginning of the video but you actually attach the second buckle once you've done braiding?
Hi, I show the set up at the start but if it’s hard to see I have another video showing how to do this set up with a short piece of cord so you can see clearer. The cord needs to be attached to both buckles or it could come apart if your dog pulls
Hi, I usually burn the ends of both cords and hold them together to seal together, there are a few good videos on RU-vid for this, or you could use the manny method. I have a video for this on my channel ☺️
Hi ☺️ it depends on where you are, I get mine from paracord.eu. You can get some good ones on Etsy. I’m not too sure of suppliers outside of Europe I’m afraid!
The cord in this video is 550 paracord which is 4mm. But you could use thinner cord if you are making smaller collars. I would recommend order a small sample of each size to get an idea of how thick each is
I measured for a 13" collar for a Jack Russell added another inch for good luck and found I was woefully short, having used up all the 14ft recommended at inch per one foot!
Oh no! I’m sorry to hear this, I’ve always made mine with 1-1.5” extra and they’ve worked, I’m not sure why it wouldn’t fit. I also usually have spare cord left when I braid using the 1:1 ratio. This has definitely puzzled me!
Hi, unfortunately it completely depends on the length of collar you want to make. The best thing to do it use an inches to cm/M converter online to work out how much you need after you measure your pet’s neck
It’s paracord. Mountain climbers tend to use it as it’s lightweight and mould resistant but very strong. You can get it in a variety of sizes and colours online depending on where you are
If you keep it simple enough you can get away with using scissors, or you can get a small cutting mat and craft scalpel which will allow you to cut more intricate patterns! The machine is called a cricut if you are ever wanting to look it up 😊
@@d.i.ypetaccessories Can't wait! Are you also gonna be posting more videos like the bandana's? You don't find those often and you explain so wel so it's easier to follow along :)
Hi, is it possible to request a specific tutorial? I have a cobra braid dog leash that I would love to copy for my second dog, but the wrapping around the clip/clasp is something I have never seen before or been able to find a tutorial for. I would just need to send you a photo of it.
Of course! I always add 0.5-1 inch to the neck measurement to account for the thickness of the braid (1 inch if they’re fluffy) Colour 1 is the colour attached to your buckle. The length is the neck measurement x 1.25 (24.5 x 1.25 = 30.6) The end number is the length of cord in feet. So 30.6 feet (although it’s probably easier to just go with 30.5 as it’s easier to measure!) Colour 2 & 3 is the neck measurement x 0.85 (24.5 x 0.85 = 20.8 or 21 feet of cord) So overall for your dog you’ll need: Colour 1: 30.5 feet of cord Colour 2: 21 feet of cord Colour 3: 21 feet of cord
unfortunately i don’t understand the other end of the clip part (6:02) how is it supposed to make the same knot if it’s attached to the female clip on the other end?
I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling! I haven’t watched this video back in a while so I’ll need to rewatch it and see if I can make some changes. It won’t start the exact same as the first buckle as we start with a loop there, but it makes 2 larks head knots. You need to feed the ends of the cord through the second half of the buckle from the top toward the bottom. Then, you bring both cords through the centre strands (the 2 strands now joining your buckle that you will braid over). Put each strand to their respective sides. Start with the left side. It goes over the centre strand, back up through the buckle from the bottom toward the top. It’ll have made a loop of itself. The end goes down through this loop and you pull to tighten. You just repeat that on the other side. I also have a video showing how to set this up where I use a much shorter piece of cord so you can see. Hopefully it helps! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6WdwJaZk0wQ.htmlsi=NfukpNAYhekcm1t- Let me know if you have any other questions
Hello, there is a person on hotmart who is selling a course but using your videos, the name is ArtPet (in Brazil), I know how much work you have to do to make the videos and edit so I don't think it's clear what the person is doing, I I tried to report it but I couldn't.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention, unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be able to report it either as it switches to Portuguese for the report form and I don’t speak Portuguese 🙈 with no options for other languages. I’ll keep trying though!
Hi, I usually get mine from Etsy but there are a few wholesalers online. I occasionally have a google as some new sellers pop up. Depending on where you are there’s paracord.eu or 123paracord
¡gracias!
Hi, I’m hoping this will translate well as my Spanish is not very good! The collar will be the size of your pet’s neck plus one inch. The quantity of cord is one foot of cord per one inch of braid. For example: a ten inch collar will need ten feet of cord. For two collars it will be half the length each colour (for example 5 feet of green and five feet of pink). If you work better in centimetres. It will be 12cm of cord per 1cm of braid. I hope this all helps!
I have recently found your tutorials on RU-vid and they are brilliant thank you for sharing. Please can you tell me what width paracord you use and where the best place is to buy it from? Thank you
Thank you so much! I buy mine from Etsy as I find the price very similar to wholesalers. The width is completely your preference, calculating the measurements is the same regardless of the size of the paracord, but in this video I use type 3 (also known as 550) and it’s 4mm wide. I use this for my bigger collars. I use type 1 for my cat collars. If you want to make smaller dog collars I would use type 2 if your buckle is around 5/8 of an inch (16mm). I use type 3 for 20-25mm (3/4-1”) buckles. Hope all that makes sense!
Hi, even though I’m Scottish and we use cm for everything else I usually work with inches in anything crafty as it’s easier for me! But for cm I think the easiest way is to multiply by 12 for every cm of collar. So a 10cm collar x12 = 120cm cord. I haven’t tested this though so take it with a pinch of salt!
Hi, absolutely! I’d definitely recommend pushing the braid up as you go to make it feel sturdier and prevent gapping as the horse moves. If your horse wears halters while in the field it may trap dirt in between. The way I clean my collars is to let them soak in warm water with washing powder and then again in fresh water before lying flat to dry
@@d.i.ypetaccessories thank you! Do you happen to know how to make that start on a rope halter? the design is different from a collar... and I don't understand it at all
@@d.i.ypetaccessories I mean the beginning for the braid, how to make it on a rope halter, because it is of course different from a collar how you start it
