Very cool. I tried fall planting snaps, rudbeckia, yarrow, and feverfew last year. I’m in zone 4b/5a, but we typically have good insulating snow cover. I’m not worried about yarrow since that’s perennial to zone 2 or something, feverfew is usually reliable here, rudbeckia is an unknown, and I know people who have their snaps come back, but the areas I’ve checked (where the snow has melted) don’t show signs of life. Maybe the ones still under snow are ok. But I had a lot of success with early spring sowing those, so I have some started inside ready to go once the weather turns a corner here (in just a few days, according to the forecast!)
I tried to overwinter snapdragons too - I just trimmed mine as I have snowdrops and crocuses and other minor bulbs coming up under them. There are some good Plant identification app -- I use Picture This which has a fee but I believe iNaturalist is free as that was helpful last year in identifying different seedlings from plants verses weeds. Watch Brie the Plant Lady as she had a video a few weeks ago identifying larkspur and love in the mist. Yes I am looking forward to seeing some green in the garden too.
