March of the Wooden Soldiers vs Barnaby’s horde of boogie men in Laurel and Hardy’s 1934 classic 

The part of the wooden soldiers always excited me, as a child and, even at 76, I still get emotional when I see that part of the movie One funny thing, the actor who played Barnaby, Henry Kleinbatch, (without his movie whiskers and makeup) was probably the most handsome actor in the movie.

What a great childhood memory……. One of my favorites. Still gets me……

Just seeing the look on Barnaby’s face when the Troops come marching is priceless!

I've seen four different versions of this movie, but I think this is my favorite. It's definitely my favorite rendition of the March of the Wooden Soldiers.

I have to admit, I didn’t get it. My husband and his sister rave about this movie and think of it as a Christmas classic. They watched it every year growing up in the Bronx. But try as I might, I couldn’t find the magic anytime it was on tv. Well late this night, stuck in a dull-drum in east Texas near the beginning of a near summer heatwave, I could finally watch it through their eyes. It really is a magical children’s fantasy. I needed this.

I will forever love this version.

I loved this movie as a kid and I'm happy to see the full movie on RU-vid. The movie can be slow, but has it's amusing moments--it is a Laurel & Hardy movie, after all. But boy, Silas Barnaby is the Darth Sidious of Toyland, and the final battle you posted here, is like the Children's version of the Battle of Helm's Deep. Thank you for posting this! They never really showed what happened to Barnaby at the end. Whether he escaped or was captured. Last I saw he was trying to get away. I think he ran into something and three blocks fell spelling the word Rat. And that was it.

So where is Hades?
