loved hearing your thoughts on lapvona!!

Hi! I loved your review of The Temporary. It struck me while reading it that she possibly stayed in the relationships because she liked his pal? And that he stayed in the relationship to keep his friend away from her. All that also seems very 90s I suppose.

Maybe in the end but during most of the book I felt like Francine just wanted the attention and Ralph was a bit of a narcissist.

Thank you Sophie. I have not seen the film but I must, have heard the adaptation is really good.

Literally panic-texted someone about Women Talking because we started to shift it down the TBR, but obvi that was rectified after your take on it

Fantastic video! Beloved is a book I want to read again. I appreciated your thoughts on Cusk's book. I've only read Second Place and I really loved it. However, it hasn't compelled me to want to read through all of her works.

I’ve read all Cusk latest fiction and love her writing, so far her early fiction is an interesting time. Second Place was/is perfection.

whew! what a month im sold on women talking & beloved! curious to see if your feelings on pure colour change after some time - i felt similarly but now remember it really really warmly. & lapvona definitely should have come with some sort of parental advisory sticker haha i was so caught off guard as well

I know you’ll have brilliant thoughts on toews and beloved so buzzing for that. I’m contemplating rereading pure colour to see what I missed the first time. Lapvona needs an explicit content sticker on the front - omg books should actually do that.

I want to go back and reread Beloved after watching this! I totally felt the same about Lapvona. Really too graphic and gross for me to completely enjoy the reading experience but I liked talking about it afterwards.

Good discourse can salvage an unenjoyable book for me. I endorse a Morrison reread for you.

I am also trying to go through Cusk's body of work. So far 2nd place and outline trillogy my faves. I am struggling to get into her earlier work and non_fiction . Looking forward to your review🙂

Cusk newest fiction is a whole different ball game to her older stuff. I enjoyed The Last Supper from her if you haven’t given that a ho already, have her memoir aftermath on the cards this month as well.

"the most beautiful exploration of decision-making" I am so adding Women Talking to my list, love the idea of the politics and social climate of a women-led community

on Pure Colour, I almost wish Heti had either chosen art and artistry or grief within the context of the different versions of the universe/types of people (was it fish, bird, and something else?). I did like the book overall, but it felt like she was trying to fit all of these themes into one chosen concept and at times it felt convulated and forced

I JUST checked out Lapovna, hmmmm I still don't know how I feel about Moshfegh but I'm looking forward to seeing her narrative style in a different genre

Aaaah Beloved was my very first Morrison. Also trying to savoring Morrison's books as I read through them slowly since we have a limited number of her works😔

I hope you enjoy Toews, it truly felt powerful to read and so obviously right. I’m keen to reread Heti and give a second chance because I know there is something in it I maybe missed reading it the first time. Moshfegh has a great mind, I’m really excited to see Eileen adapted for film! Toni Morrison has my heart forever, I might need to start reading her children’s fiction when I do run out.

My favourite book in March is in German and unfortunately not translated, so I can't recommend it to you. But I read a very interesting short story collection, Friday Black by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah, which I really liked.

@@r.enee.morris You have to be into weird and dark. And the writing is very much like George Saunders.

Friday Black is wildly imaginative and creative. We're going to be reading his upcoming novel Chain-Gang All Stars over the summer, which I'm really looking forward to.

I just finished "Among Flowers" and I HATED it. Based on how she writes about the porters, I don't think we would get on very well. 👎

It’s not her best work at all. Try Lucy or A Small Place.
