Marco is the one who got me into more fusion kind of stuff. This song is going to be playing at my wedding, that's how much his playing has influenced my life and my playing. I don't know how people are criticising his tone, because it sounds tight! I would be happy to sound anything like him.

I was there during the DV Mark clinic in Amsterdam early October, both you and Andy not only had the expected great chops but the Multiamp also sounds very good! I think what most people are missing out on in these clips is the absence of speaker 'air', but I get the point of demoing this insane equipment direct out because that's one of the many pros of devices like these. I really like this video it showcases amazing technology, probably the only thing I don't like is that Rob Balducci looking Ibanez hahaha!! Anyway, to shut some people up about 'downgrading' from Mesa or Fractal - which it's not, it's just different gear - maybe shoot a fly-on-the-wall vid with a miced cab some day. Folks, I can assure you: the Multiamp sounds badass!!! Recording direct out is always a bit less real, with any device. It's just very convenient and you'll never notice it in a big stage live environment. Also, why on earth are Salvyo and Andrea not more well known? Great musicians!!!
@joeysanchez5768
@joeysanchez5768 9 лет назад
Wow, you're one among the few people that actually say the Multiamp sounds good. I hope you're right about this one because there is absolutely no video right now that I've watched with Marco, using the Multiamp, producing tones that come anywhere near to the tones he's had with the Fractal. His Fractal tone had been his best tone overall imo. It seemed to be his 'biggest' sounding tone, whereas this DV mark sounds quite digital and less amp-like. To be fair thought with the Multiamp, Andy James gets better tone out of it than Marco but it still does not go anywhere near the tone he had with the Laney Ironheart imo. Also, Marco's playthroughs of the stuff he did on the JLB album, using the triple 6, had very good tone as well - very close to his Mesa tone, so it's not exactly a downgrade if he actually used the real amps. However, I'm really just curious as to why Marco uses this trebly ass tone with the Multiamp.
@patrickvanvlooten
@patrickvanvlooten 9 лет назад
Hey Joey Sanchez, I agree his Fractal tone was great. And yes, Andy gets a more realistic tone from the Multiamp. Before, I wasn't really impressed with what's posted on RU-vid by either Marco, Andy or many others. Tonewise, of course. Pierre Côté managed to get the best out of the direct recording functionality of the Multiamp if you ask me. But hey, I was never going to pass on an opportunity to see Marco and Andy play so I went to the DV Mark clinic in Amsterdam last month. Thing is, you need to (learn to) judge this amp differently because there's so much more than meets the eye. Just like the Laney IRT Studio I agree, the Multiamp has a less satisfying emulated DI/cab simulation section than the KPA or Fractal have. However, the big things are: both the IRT Studio and Multiamp come with the proper poweramp, weigh next to nothing and are very affordable! And both devices sound insane with a good cab stuck under it. The USB/DI functionality is a good extra tool which in a homerecording situation might need some post processing (just like a Palmer or Torpedo would need, at least that's what I recon). Yes, depending on the user both the KPA and Fractal are outstanding in that area. In a live situation though, any good emulated DI/cab simulation will hit the PA better than any badly miced cab, no matter how good of a cab and/or mic are used. You probably know the drill: a soundguy will almost litteraly throw a mic in front of your cab and then EQ the hell out of the signal until there's not much of a tone left. Because, there was no tone to begin with: it was badly miced. There's a much cleaner, noiseless and consistent signal without bleed coming from a good direct out. And still, the soundguy will fiddle the EQ section as if those knobs are nipples. Anyway, my point being: imagine having a Fractal and you want to use it live with a cab. The proper poweramp will cost you almost the same amount a Multiamp Mono costs. So that's €2600 for the Fractal, at least €150 for a MIDI footcontroller if you're going for the FCB1010 or €800 for the MFC101 if that's what you prefer, then another €750 for a Matrix poweramp and let's say €300 for a good used 2x12 cab: at least €3800 and then you're lugging the Fractal around without a case. Now, the Multiamp. €1000 for the mono version, €150 for a footcontroller and €300 for a cab. Do I need to go on? The Fractal is targeted for studio use, using it live will cost you the amount of a car. The Multiamp, is an amp with many pros over the cons traditional tube amps have. PS: Yes, you can also use any Boss or Line6 product or any app, but they have yet to match playing dynamics to some of the 'better' products out there. Also, I am a Fractal player myself, playing it fully wireless and without a cab (I use in-ear monitors). I wouldn't trade it for the world, but if I were ever fortunate enough to have a third rig...
@joeysanchez5768
@joeysanchez5768 9 лет назад
Woah, really informative response! So what you're telling me is Marco (already having an AxeFX) is sacrificing some tone for convenience sake? Well although that does make sense, it's still not as easy to listen to his music when you're annoyed with the tone he has. How big is the difference in tone when Marco uses the Multiamp live compared to the ones he's been putting up on youtube? I'm really just hoping not to hear a type of tone this annoying on his future releases (whenever that may be)
@patrickvanvlooten
@patrickvanvlooten 9 лет назад
Well, convenience and money of course. He told me a full price Multiamp Stereo is cheaper than an Axe II with his Fractal discount. He's also pretty hestitant taking a "€3000 unit" on the road or on planes all over the world which I totally get now my Fractal smells like beer and my MFC101 already died once after a small mishap. Nowadays, he travels with an SD card and a small MLC FX-25 ACE pedal. I also hope there will be better tones on future releases. Maybe it's just as simple as turning off the cab simulation and using some IR's instead. I'm sure future firmware updates for the Multiamp will have improved cab simulations though, as they are ever evolving. And maybe he'll use tube amps instead, who knows? I really enjoy the compositions nontheless and Marco's playing is beyond insane. He'll make it sound great for official releases as he's managed to make a Behringer V-Amp 2 and Guitar Rig 2 sound awesome on his debut. The tone on "Sunset Lights" was done with Guitar Rig if I recall correctly, and I prefer it over the tone on "Jester's Tears" which is the USA Lead patch on the Fractal. And "Song Of Ben and C" wasn't even recorded with a miced hollowbody acoustic guitar but a solidbody using the piezo pickup. And even the Boss GT3 on "Moving Around E" sounds awesome. Give this dude a stick and a rubber band and he'll make it sound great. Don't worry! ;)
@patrickvanvlooten
@patrickvanvlooten 9 лет назад
I forgot to answer your question. Live, it sounds like an amp. Not exactly like a "..." or "...", as with most hand assembled boutique amps no two sound the exact same. So there's no way a modeler will ever be an exact aural representation of the real deal. Nowadays, they do get very close! Anyway, the Multiamp sounds so convincing you could easily assume there are tubes involved. Both Andy and Marco demoed the dynamics with picking and rolling off volume, it responded like a tube amp would so I can only imagine it plays without feeling too distant and uninvolved. And plugging in different guitars would affect the tone as it would with a tube amp. The speakers are or course of big influence on overall tone but those DV Mark Neodymium speakers propelled creamy highs without getting shrill, lush, piercing mids and fat, tight low end. However, I guess the Multiamp would do great with any good speaker cab as the DV Mark speakers were modelled after V30's. Going FRFR with i.e. a (powered) monitor, you might be better off with the Fractal or KPA as you'd have more parameters to manipulate the cab simulation with.

It's true. I personally love Marco's music to pieces, but his tone lately has been sounding very digital ever since he downgraded to the DV mark multiamp. To this day I cannot understand why he stopped using the Axe FX and Mesa amps when those things produced monstrous tone.
@penfold-55
@penfold-55 9 лет назад
Daniel Xavier as someone who listens to a lot of music, I am starting to see a positive side to these digital amps. I think its well established they they give more of that "buzz" or flatter sound that doesnt have that warm thick undertone that you get from those warm-to-the-touch valves HOWEVER, they can be used as an effect. I have performed with my valve amp (not a great valve amp... but its valves and you can tell!) and others have the standard transistor types...its very clear that my valve amp not only blows them out of the water in terms of volume but also sound thickness leaving even the bass player feeling underpowered (this is usually a good thing :P )
@Rapterr15
@Rapterr15 9 лет назад
Daniel Xavier I imagine even a guy as talented as Marco is just getting by financially. Working as a professional musician nowadays is no easy feat so I imagine the monetary benefit to being a DV Mark endorsee must be worth it. I agree though, I think his tone with the Axe FX 2 was a lot better. The DV Mark sounds decent enough, but a guy of Marco's talent deserves more than a decent tone.

The Onion Knight Oh yes definitely. .Im a professional guitarist and been at it for almost 30 years..Its realy tough financially. .Im forced to take gigs and play music that i dont like to put food on the table. ..Most times endorsement is just free gear and no money is involved. .
