Excellent and very basic. We are so full of opinions none of which make us happy. To have no opinions is to be one with all things. We are all joined in the isness of life which is pure joy. Everything else is belief and mental commentary , the source of all conflict, inner and outer.
Its a great video sir, your voice has a really soothing and calming effect. Sir in india we consider stoicism as western version of buddhism. Stoicism is in our view a practical implication of madhyamika, the middle path of buddhism. Sir I would like to request you if you can make videos on buddhism, especially on nagarjuna and shunyata, dependent origination.
I am struck as to how the Stoics sound like The Buddha, Jesus or Lao Tzu verse, only interpreted to plain language. 1, Nirvana, inner peace, is achieved in letting go of what we mentally cling to. 2. The Kingdom of Heaven within is achieved by becoming poor in spirit. Letting go of what we hold mentally. 3. One's Tao, "way" is improved by un-naming what we have named mentally. Stoics, 04:47 - Take away your opinion about a thing and you have removed the complaint. Thank you for this fine video. IMHO, this is the teaching we need in society in modernity. I am going to paraphrase, but Aristotle in the Nicomachean ethics teaches the greatest good we seek is happiness. We seek many things in an effort to become happy. Opinions for me are the disease of the modern era, and the internet has helped the spread of them , no matter the harm they cause. People are entitled to have a view/opinion on anything but to shove it down peoples throats , or worse abuse those who disagree has caused so much harm and damage to humanity and our planet . We are running out of time to rectify the mess we have created and opinions will not help . We need to become one and become one I mean one living planet, not tribes , not species just one .
Thank you for your thoughts! I totally agree with you, and my other video, about Spinoza, says exactly what you are saying here. I'm not sure if the Internet is to blame, though. Consider that without it, we two would also have no way of expressing and sharing our own opinions. I'm afraid our problem is rooted very deeply in our evolutionary history. We have developed as lifeforms whose individual survival depends on them holding strong opinions about the world and fighting others for scarce resources. I don't see how many altruists, Buddhists etc could have survived the stone age. So, unfortunately, we are now stuck with this inheritance, and we have only our little bit of rational insight to fight our instincts. Anyway, as long as we're here, there is hope.
I think our problem is how language is manipulated to fit the desires of the wealthy. The only things in history that ever truly change are the languages and the tools used to enforce the language. Language is a program to the mind. When the program fails and the wealthy lose control, they update the program by changing the language. The legal world is the underworld 2.0
