I've been one of those fortunate few they got to see this young man from the very beginning! He was 11 years old when I got to play with him and his dad on the back porch at a church baptismal celebration! I had been playing all day well number of musicians! When Marcus and his dad arrived late in the afternoon I knew these guys had to act together and I figured they needed their own bass player! But they told me to stay and play! Those two gentlemen worked me out like I hadn't worked out in over a decade! That was the start of his long journey! I've been blessed to watch him grow, and grow, and get better, and better! And he's still the polite, humble, really nice Southern gentleman he's been since he was a kid! He's the real deal folks and he's restored my faith in rock and roll! God bless you Marcus!
Marcus King and his band are the top of the new talent playing the Blues. Nobody that I have heard lately has a voice as good as Marcus. He sounds like an old soul in a young body.
I watched an interview with Marcus. He as playing gigs with his dads band from age 8 through 14. Then he went out on his own and formed the Marcus King Band. There is a RU-vid video of him and his band playing a gig when he was 15 or 16 years old. So yes he is young but he has some years of experience. If you didn’t see him on video you would think he was a much older blues man.
