Yo Marcus!!!!!!! Why???????? This cat never ceases to amaze me!!! Panther. The blues. Power. Bruce Lee. Winelight. Run for Cover. She's a super lady. Juice. Rio Sol. Module 105....... and those are just the ones I know!!!!!!!! Those bass players who are into mega dexterity and lightening technicalities are missing the point in my humble opinion. Funny thing is Marcus can do all that stuff (I've seen him do it) but he chooses not to. Thank God for Marcus who's just a pure genius like Quincy J.
All these years i felt Blast was missing something and than i ran into this jam. Mission accomplished!!! Can this man play drums or what????? Manu is any guitar players dream drummer virtuoso and dont take my word for it just ask Satch!!!! Dam i would love to jam with great Manu Katche all day everyday.
That's what bass should always sound like!!!!!!!!!! Listen to him on Grover"s "Winelight" (1980) and you'll know this cat was destined for greatness!! When I grow up i wanna be just like him!!! And that intro on Luther's "She's a superlady". The list goes on. My fave? His solo on lee ritenours "Rio Sol". Festival album. Him and Omar Hakim's "conversation". Heaven!!!!
I've heard so many different versions of Blast. Each has something special the other ones didn't but that's live performance. Last November, I purchased the Marcus Miller Signature Jazz in the same natural finish running DR HighBeams through my SWR rig. I can get the same exact sound. However, there is that edge that comes from attack and technique and that's what puts Marcus in that place he's at.
