I gotta say Poogie probably doesn't get near enough credit for his SOLID groove backing up these guys. He just keep that pocket!!! Poogie is one of the great drummers

All three are great bassist, each with his own style. I really like Stanley Clarke's chording, but I'll take Marcus in a band for that groove.

As a bassist, it is amazing to watch. NOT because Stanley is noodling his ass off (which he is), but rather to watch Marcus just kick back and groove, content to lay down the bottom while Stanley wails. And Victor providing the rhythm.... This is what jamming with others is all about.

This is not only an example of pure, visionary musicianship, but also one of the most disciplined, well-trained, and perfectly-executed examples of inter-musician communication I've ever seen. The song evolves naturally, with each musician lending to the jam exactly the unique type of bass line that their intensely customized instruments are designed for--Clarke with guitar style melodies, miller with the slap-thump, and Wooten providing the harmonic-ridden counterpoint. Gods of music at work.

The tightest band I ever put together was actually my first back in 1975. It was a 4-piece jazz/blues/funk band. Since there was only four of us and we played a lot of Weather Report, I named us Forecast. It was a keyboard player/backup brass so talented we did not need a guitar or bass player; an excellent drummer; a brass player; and me on woodwinds and backup keyboard. We always showed up for our practice sessions at different times and in different order. I was always first and would be making up a song and as each guy showed up they would join in on the creation. All of my solos were an emotional trip with constantly changing feeling and every band member could intuitively follow me and visa versa. The most fun I had was when it was just the drummer on me.

The only thing that could make this more perfect would be a quick jam on "Big Bottom" by Spinal Tap... ;)

How can anyone dislike this music? don't get it at all.
@cassiuswallace700
@cassiuswallace700 8 лет назад
+Price Ostia I did not check dislike but it sounds too unstructured for guys at this level. It seems as if no one is trying to hold pocket or foundation. It's all over the place. I like how youtube used allow you to put put in star ratings 1 - 5. I would have given this a 3 star. If these were unknown artist the ratings would not have been this high,

This is one of the most gifted pieces of talent! When I saw Victor Wooten, I said to myself tonite, "What would it be like if he was to team-up with Stanley Clarke". Damn if I'd got lucky. Marcus Miller brought it too.

Just about everything you could see about bass playing here. Shredding, grooving, Harmonics, chords, Funky slap n' pop, you name it. There are none better on the planet than these 3 guys.

Stanley Clarke sure has one unique style. Kind of like he's playing a four string guitar.

the most amazing thing about this is that they are disciplined enough to give each other "room" and play accompanying parts, rather then just all going crazy and making noise. And they each get their time to solo and lead the jam.
@austinherrington7049
@austinherrington7049 2 года назад
All 3 performances are insane, but I love Victor's because he's comping like a keyboard player or jazz guitar player. They haven't played this song together at this point, so everyone kind of had to find their place. Marcus knew he was the bass player, Stan knew he was playing a guitar-style, and Vic just had to fit in. He fills his role so well, and he's clearly just improvising stuff. Seeing SMV was one of my favorite concert experiences, and I'm so glad this performance inspired them to do a super group.
