Hey! Thanks for all the support on the translation! I made a cover of Dance of Life with Len so do check it out if you can! 🫶🏻💕 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GoaM1w2HpUw.htmlsi=dOIKjOH7YaIQ2gUH
I can't believe nobody else has pointed this out yet but I think the title was supposed to reference Corpse Dance- like Maretu's White Happy was a reference to Viva Happy
To me this song is about someone trying to find the good parts in life and feel happy despite feeling like their life is horrible, and having thoughts of suicide and feeling like they should do it because anyone could and so it's simple, but trying to combat those thoughts by thinking how much good can come from life
I love this theory! It was my first thought that it’s something along those lines. That or also they don’t want to live but can’t die so all they can do is continue with life while fantasizing about death
My connection between this and the themes of love, in line with the translator's "kingdom of heaven" correlating to climax, is that they may be self soothing through sexual encounters or a relationship that revolves around lust more than love
In my opinion, it sounds like someone who keeps trying to commit suicide, but is always stopped. Because the song seems to be going in a loop of sorts, the person is stopped, they continue to have suicidal thoughts until they eventually 'dance', causing them to eventually be stopped by someone else no matter how badly they desire to go to heaven. Plus the chorus sounds a bit like begging imo, "Let me dance!!" Sounds like a type of plea or hope, like "Just let me die" or "I hope this ends up working out". So in a way, the song seems to be about someone begging for death, wanting other people to stop trying to get in the way.
When I first saw this song I immediately thought of suicide for some reason lol. I definitely think it's about someone in a bad place who can't recover. Like, they want to "dance the dance of life", they want to "touch the shining sparkle of life", but they can't. Also I think the voice is saying "Let's dance".
It was my immediate thought so yes I agree! I just updated the description talking abt how some are pointing out the possible themes of sexual coercion too so it’s possible to see it that way too! As for the voice, I hear let’s dance too. It sounded a bit too obvious to add in the subtitles but I’ll add it into the description just in case!
Imo the song seems to either be about someone recovering from depression or someone with bpd--the repetition of "let me dance", "come on", "hey" in particular make me think of that in-between struggling phase between recovery and complete despair, where you're telling yourself it's so easy, everyone can do it, they're doing it already, you should be allowed to do the same, but your brain won't let you--I'm less sure about the bpd interpretation, but I think that person in the comments who said the lyrics are about mania totally hit the nail on the head (I think that can be said for a lot of MARETU songs actually). The lyrics describing life as hard and painful and then calling it beautiful, of wanting to forget everything and then wanting to remember, it really makes me think the singer is conflicted between whether or not they want to live or die, but are actively (at least a little) attempting to stay alive and find joy in their life. Either way I'm still grooving
i feel like im going insane here, but aren't there clear thematic connections to midsummer celebrations? midsummer is a celebration of life/fertility, and you dance around a pole. flowers and such tend to be part of the celebration as well, even though it's usually lighthearted and admittedly not nearly as dark/deep as much of the lyrics. the graphic in the video reminds me a lot of the pole as well. i don't have a theory for what the actual meaning or message is, just this possible linked theme. hopefully someone else can use it :]
I don’t think you’re crazy for that! It is a song open to interpretation anyway! I honestly really like this connection and it makes sense in the context! Really cool how many people noticed different things about the song and interpret it differently!
maretu fans are so fast,, covers are always out after a day and translations a few hours or even minutes after the release at max😭 thank you for the translation !!!
I mean judging by the symbol and The words making the symbol at the end only, this could *b* about Over-Population or Endangerment But it could also be about ( *Actually acknowledging the parts similar to "dance of Corpse" and "Let's go to heaven" both songs by kikou*) 1. Like I said De-Population/ Over-Fishing and suicide 2.Being miserable and commiting suicide 3.Shinjū //The hearts, Hint of Love and death: ♡♥︎// 4.Coercion ( making someone else do something you said by force) into harming someone else they don't like and suicide 5. Fearing the future and ending yourself because (hints of joining "them" and reality) 6. Or because Valentine's just passed it could be about romantic relationships, explains how people of love are over-exploiting themselves to get one and end up getting hurt, Eventually going insane in the end.
Honestly I’m so happy to be that person you go to 🥺 I always try to post it ASAP since I too love maretu! I stay up at 6 am doing it so I’m glad it pays off for people ^^
Haha that’s just how I roll! I honestly can feel that. This one was a bit less cryptic than Angel 92 in my opinion but most to all his recent songs have felt very vague yet dark so I definitely feel that! Pronouns are difficult to determine especially I feel. There’s not many usages in this case so even the pronouns like I, my, we, us, you, etc. can be interpreted depending on the translator!
@@sakuravikofficialConsidering how the picture somewhat looks like a person with other people clinging to them kinda like corpse dance and with how the people here have extra body parts (arms) when the people in corpse dance are missing body parts (faces) it could definitely take a lot of inspiration from corpse dance imo
Speaking of similarities, the song also sounds rather similar to Mind Brand, so I think it could also be a sequel to that. Maretu likes to reference his older songs through melodic, instrumental or lyrical similarities anyway, probably to establish connections between them Edit: Also to make it a bit clearer, in this song the instrumentals and the cheering sound are a bit similar to Mind Brand's
idk if its just be, but the way the lyrics are sung at the very beginning hit my brain and go "Wait, why does that beat sound familiar" And im like trying to wrap my head around and trying to remember
i think it's because it has the same sequence of notes that mind brand has, put 'em side by side and there's definetly similarities, it's not just you imo www
Some time before was thinking "Damm, i wish there was a translation of this. People aren't that fast, i'll have to wait like 2 days for it" AND THEN THIS POPS OUT ONE HOUR LATER NFDJKSANJK Yall are fast.
I will say, for MARETU fans, there will ALWAYS be at least one translation up the first day. We’re just to insane not to want to know the meaning ASAP lol
Oops! I was trying to post it quickly that I put that instead (I copy and pasted the title from the video so “original” was in there)😭 thanks for pointing it out! That’s embarrassing lol
I actually just wanted to what are those things (japanese) but you translated into a English, but then i realized those are lyrics Btw your videos are great! ❤🎉
I think the similarities with Mind Brand might be because of either the stories are connected or because they both have the theme of trauma in their stories
Glad I’m not the only one then 😭 I just feel more bad abt it cuz I usually go straight to translating after watching the stream so lol. No problem though!
There are obvious sexual themes here, especially towards the end. The "dance of life" could very easily be referring to making a baby. My theory is the protagonist here suffers from depression and suicidal ideation like others have mentioned, and hope for a better future. Possibly they're using intimacy simply to make themselves feel better/as a coping mechanism, but they could also be hoping to have a child and start a family, seeing that as the beginning of a new life for themselves.
considering maretu’s way of creating lyrics instead of something mental, the meaning of this song could be taken LITERALLY. its something like trying to resurrect your beloved- idk about the beloved part- but ending up losing yourself in the process
i only know somethings like what "dance of life" is it is a painting from a Norwegian artist the painting is a metaphorical representation of lifes arc to youth to old. As well as a dance someone named they dance with their arms like the being in the cover. The Dance of life is also the name of a ritual in Africa they to this to connect to the divine also said At 3:39 theres most likely more but idk
I was trying to look it up to see what it could reference since a lot of Japanese comments were talking about hieroglyphs and feather ornaments. I love getting to know about this! I’ll add it into the description! Thanks for sharing!
I don't know if it's just me and I don't have any solid proof to back up my theory, but I get a feeling, just from the vibe and illustration alone, that this might be about a cult 0_0
Thank you for the quick translation as always! I agree with the description: some of the lyrics do make me think there’s a sexual meaning but overall the vibe makes me think of Kikuo’s Corpse Dance
My interpretation is that this song is a POV of a depressive person listening (and reacting) to someone talking to him telling that life is easy and you should just "dance with it" "it's very easy anyone can do", but in the person side of view way and the "traditional way", the way it told "let's try to fix your broken body" feels like someone that is thinking they are helping this depressed person, but of course, this is not taken in a good way by the depressed person and it's not helping since life is more complex then that, you can't just "smile and accept" stuff, and that's why we keep hearing "Let me dance" in a more demanding way, this is the MC thinking to himself and begging for it to stop and let him do things his way, also, after 1:42 I think this is the MC thinking to himself about what he listened in a more negative way This song can be interpreted in a lot of ways, but this is what I theorized
Warning for mentions of less then happy things but its maretu so what do you expect For some reason i think this is about a double suicde, and the pov is a partner who had a rough life trying to convince the other partner to end it with them in a last dance of life, and in the end, they go through with it Thats just my interpretation with some of the lyrics like "shall we go and become connected to the kingdom of heaven", "this method is very simple actually, all because you can do it too",etc
With the translation my interpretation is a bit different maybe it's about people struggling to find light in their lives but is trying to accept the fact that they are too deep down and just tries to be a good person to reach to that heaven
For me, it sounds like someone's fed up of life and depressed of it. However, he tries to keep 'dancing', which in this context can be 'keep living.' He tries to continue living, but his dark thoughts always conquer him instead, to the point he's begging his mind to just let him 'dance' the dance of life. I also think those lyrics that tell 'It's a very simple thing to do.' and stuff like that are his unaliving thoughts trying to control him while he's trying his best to just continue rolling on and not have it succeed in making him die. So long story short, it's a suicidal person's thoughts telling him to die but he tries not to follow his thoughts. Also why does the thumbnail look like the man's getting bit by piranhas lmao
I'm so glad I'm not the only one that noticed this! I feel like this has a connection with Mind Brand before the translation came up... but not confirmed yet!
I put it in the description but the muffled vocals seem to be saying “Let’s dance” but that’s just from a listening perspective. Some other similar variation like “Best dance” or “Life dance” is possible to but seeing as the lyric right after is “Let’s dance a dance of life”, in my opinion, it’s saying “Let’s dance”
the use of the mind brand melody in the background is making me think this is either the same person singing or the ex of that person… like there’s no way this isn’t related. they are sister songs!
