I am so happy to see people remembering Margaret Price here. A truly wonderful soprano . Alas memories are short and time marches on , but hopefully these recordings will continue to secure her legacy. What touches me even more is to see how beautiful and happy she looked here.
I was actually there that Day!!! I was a young teenager and I was very new to Opera and went up to the city with my Grandma Elvira to see the "real" Opera singers!! I love Margaret Price.....she had a FANTASTIC style of singing! She REALLY was true to the words in this particular aria! She sang the music the way the COMPOSER intended.....nothing more nothing less!
+george prentice That must have been a wonderful experience for you, and a great memory. She lives now only in memory... and in recordings. We are fortunate to have this one. She loved San Francisco and its people, but found flying somewhat painful and difficult. She eventually retired to the country with her dogs, but delighted in receiving friends.
I can't believe what I've heard. People don't sing like that anymore. My favorite, Caballe couldn't be better. I heard Price many years ago in a historic stage of Don Carlo with Domingo, Obrazcova and Nesterenko, Zeffirelli I think was a director. She was completely ill with flu and still sang like a healthy singer wouldn't even think of singing. It showed on TV in USSR and for a few days there was talk of nothing else but her singing. Thanks for posting. Fantastic!!!
I pianissimi del finale sono eseguiti con una tecnica PAZZESCA! Una voce così grande, bella e perfettamente calibrata sui pianissimi, c'è tanto da imparare da questa grande soprano
We are in danger of forgetting just how incomparable Margret Price is - she can out do all other sopranos in her pianissimo control in this piece whilst still convincing us with a huge sound. She can be both ethereal and sensuous at the same time.
Most singers will tell you this aria is very hard- especially the octave jumps at the end. She makes it all sound so easy! One of the loveliest versions of I've ever heard of this aria. I'd be standing and cheering as well.
Thank you so much Margaret Price; I kept a wonderful memory of the Requiem from Verdi you sang with La Scala de Milan in the Champs-Elysées theatre in Paris
oh my god, i`m so impressed. the top notes are sooooo beautiful. not many top singers in the past and the present had/have such a rich, clear and perfect tone.
Just Lovely! Creamy, beautiful soprano, who obviously made a tremendous impression on the huge audience. She looks and sounds radiant! I also enjoyed the casual atmosphere of the proceedings. Maestro Adler looks so cute! The half-dressed guys in the crowd... err, not so much! Thanks for posting!
