It’s extraordinary to see Fonteyn late in her career dance in this famous Mikhail Fokine work, made such by Tamara Karsavina and Vaslav Nijinsky.
At this time, she also danced The Ballerina role in ‘Petrushka’, again with Baryshnikov - footage of which I have also posted on RU-vid.

You can't top Dame Margot in the expressive field. Here you can almost PALPATE the moment she truly sees the flower with her wonderful, glittering open eyes. Her face is a whole school on itself. She's just magnificent.

I have never seen anything so beautiful as this video! Dame Margot Fonteyn surely establishes herself as the most … is there an existing word powerful enough in any language to describe how incredible she was!???… I’m sorry but I can’t say the same thing about Baryshnikov in this role. I guess even the greatest dancers have their limits!

yes, a role she was very suited to - she so perfectly creates the role of the dreaming young girl back from the ball

Ezer változatot láttam már, én Barishnykov rózsáját imádom . Erős, szenvedélyes, s ami minden szerepében feltűnő ,- teljes szívvel segíti a partnerét. Margó sok szerepében unalmas nekem ( bár kétségtelenül profi),-itt azonban a legjobb ❤

Imádom❤ Margo naiv előadásmódját , Misha erőteljes , sugárzó, gyönyörű rózsáját! 😊❤❤

Thank you, the list gets longer 💗 Would have loved to have seen Margot Fonteyn and Maris Liepa dance the roles together...💗

I watched her dance in a Romeo and Juliet excerpt at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York once. Unforgettable. And I watched him dance twice in Toronto, including the night he defected to the West. Also unforgettable.

Very nice Margot is always graceful, it feels to me that Mikhail is being a bit held back here not sure they are suited together but still amazing. My personal favourite version of this is by Manuel Legris.

yes, this pairing could have been very successful had Margot been younger. yes, i love Manuel Legris in this - he manages to achieve the tendril art nouveau shapes so right for this ballet

This male roll will need to be performed a little sensual and non-human. Misha has superb classical technique and energy, but looks a little overly sportive here. I only wish Nijinsky's rendition was recorded on film. 😅

@@isabeldiezlangre9411
