Very lovely!! I recall as an eight year old girl, longing to do ballet with a handsome young man like Rudolph, as I sat behind my desk at school looking out the window, picturing it in my mind. I was only in my second year in ballet back then. They were very famous even in New Zealand.
never been another duo like this pair. they were simply magnificent together. I was s oinspired by them both. Just beautiful! They wer so beautifully insync with each other. Never been another pair like them.
@@alainspiteri502 Au Contraire, Monsieur! Without Dame Margot opening the door to Covent Garden for Rudi, his roughness would not have been tolerated by the West at that time ... The tutoring of the great Danish Dancer, Erik Bruhn's gave Nureyev much needed polish .... (Even Rudi admitted, "(as a Dancer) I do not feel empty anymore!") and then, Margot Fonteyn offered Nureyev THE Opportunity of the 20th Century. Fonteyn & Nureyev brought out the Miraculous in each other, yes - however, BE AWARE!!! after Opening Night with Dame Fonteyn, Rudi .... bowed DEEPLY and unforgettably (getting down on one knee) to HER✨🌹🌹
Isn't it interesting how ballet has changed into a specialized athleticism. Margot Fonteyn considered among the greatest prima ballerinas of the 2oth century and her technique would be considered inadequate today. But what an artist. How was she able at the age of over 40 to convince you she was a 14 year old girl in Romeo and Juliet. But, I was one of the lucky few who got to witness this phenomenon when I was a young ballet student.
@@____Ga Her technique is no NOT inadequate. What has happened in dance today is over emphasis on great extension to the detriment, in many instances, of distorting the music to allow for this. I find much of today's performances virging on the grotesque. Where is the musicality. the projection of character, the simplicity of movement? By that I mean not overdone, less is more.
Couldn’t you manage not to make critical comments about her. That is the problem with people trying to evaluate people or performances in contrast to the way things are now. I think it is possible to enjoy a performance from the past for What It Is - and for what it was in the past -WITHOUT even mentioning people who might have judgmental attitudes about it. You could have just/only said something positive about her performance and not brought negativity into it at All.
Thank you for your response to my comment on Margot Fonteyn 's technique as being considered inadequate according to today's standards. I mean how could the greatest ballerina of the twentieth century have inadequate technique? Perhaps I should have chosen a different word other than "technique. " But haven't you noticed the dramatic difference in Fonteyn 's right angle second position extension as compared with the ballerinas of today who attain a second position extension which comes close to touching the ear. And, in supported arabesque, the ballerina comes close to a 180 degree extension. But, lest I be misunderstood, I absolutely adored Margot Fonteyn. I remember standing meekly in line as a young dancer praying that somehow I would be miraculously blessed with tickets to a sold out performance. And, I got them! Seeing Fonteyn was one of the most memorable events in my life. Her artistry was without compare. Who cares about how high someone can extend her leg when she, as an over forty dancer, completely convinces you that she is a fourteen year old Juliet. So, no more talk of technique. Art will always win out.
Great reply! My sister and went to see if we could get tickets for Giselle with Fonteyn and Nureyev. As luck would have it someone had just returned a pair!!! So we got to see them-unforgettable!
Modern performers might train and torture their bodies to acheive better results than their predecessors yet lack the emotional appeal to attract an audience. Margot Fonteyn was wise enough to protect her body to prolong her career. Her point work and extensions did not stress or damage her feet or body. She made up for less dramatic extensions by perfecting timing, technique and grace. No wonder Nureyev was mesmerised. She attained the control, discipline and calm he lacked. What a fabulous pair. He galvanised her and she calmed him down and brought security and balance.
@@jessicah3450 Besides, there’s nothing technical about lifting your leg up your ear, especially if to do it you have to disregard correct placement, line and épaulement, which are essential for classical ballet.
i know NOTHING about dance but I LOVE it since i exist in this world, ive always loved watching it and I love dancing, one time I was watching a Nureyev documentary theres was this lady who was the power house of one of the british theatres where Rudolph danced and she was saying that Nureyev and Fontaine dancing together is perfect its like they are attached at the hip. I think now I understand what she meant, its so flawless theyre movements together ❤
God given give as you can see . All around beautiful person . Her interviews she seems so kind , humble . I love watching her perform . These are priceless 😍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
.Nuyerev - Margot .... ...sublimes.... ..Sus movimientos. , y sus expresiones..corporales , ..igual a la música, poesía.... ..Arte dansistico, de l grado estético ...lo que, no es posible describir...
AMBOS MARAVILLOSOS BAILARINES, TOTALMENTE SINCRONIZADOS, ELEGANTES, GRANDES ACTORES. CREABAN ARTE , SU BAILE ERA POESIA.INOLVIDABLES Y UNICOS. NUREYEV HABRÍA CUMPLIDO 85 AÑOS EL 17 DE MARZO. ERA BELLEZA. FELICIDADES Y ESPERO QUE ESTEN DONDE ESTEN, BAILEN JUNTOS. PAREJA INIGUALABLE.❤❤❤❤❤👏👏👏🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Took me way too long to “get” Margot Fonteyn. Technically? Meh. Especially by today’s standards. But as a storyteller? UNPARALLELED. I never got Swan Lake till I watched her dance it (viva la RU-vid!) Today’s dance pyrotechnics are irresistible and deeply seductive. But I never FELT Swan Lake until I saw Fonteyn dance it. I was so HUMBLED!! And yet so filled with gratitude. ??? ! Profound gratitude.
@lavinder11 : about sex j agree 😂 , about immaterial Sylphide it's a non sens so comment 1 ) about man 2 ) about lover-ballet , it's an other matter in fact
Maybe, if the USSR had allowed Nureyev more freedom then he would have willingly returned to his homeland. You also write as though Gudunov deserved to die and that you see his tragedy as somehow what he deserved. Your lack of sympathy for his sad ending doesn't reflect very well on you.

Horrible ; youtuber who want one swan there is on RU-vid a video " Swan Lake Odette solo : Dominique Khalfouni " who danced the Lake at Paris-Opera in 1977 , unforgettable !
M Fonteyn : la plus grande falsification dans l-Histoire de la Danse classique , connue parce qu'elle a été la partenaire de Noureev et non pour son talent .
It looks like they are just marking positions....half ass doing them. That last side extension just died half way up to 100 degree angle...and not a degree higher. I guess it hurt too much and just was just too dang tired to lift it with conviction just a tad higher...and actually sustain it there for just a few seconds.
