Watching them together is painful but beautiful. She is so vulnerable and amazing, and he is so respectful of her and obviously a true fan. I feel like her vulnerability allows him to be more of himself.

Fun fact: Maria Bamford makes a point of stating what she gets paid for her work. This helps other stand-ups, particularly women, have a better idea of what venues etc will pay and what they can price their work at (rather than accepting lower wages). ❤

How we all miss this theater and late night show stage! Even when everything opens up again, I think the audience section will still be pretty empty. A live late night show isn’t the same without the audience energy and cheer.

Oh, my gosh, I saw the name and I thought they were uploading older clips of the show. I've loved her since the early 2000's, she's been, hands down, one of my all time favorite comedians ever. I was so thrilled to see her on Colbert. I could definitely watch her all day long, she's so funny and so nice and such a unique person.

The closests live experience to what 'treated' mental illness can look like. In Maria Bamford's case it's shaky, scattered, brilliant, hilarious and brutally honest. Unlike nobody else and life-time memorable. And yes, I've take my meds today!

So, THIS was the Maria Bamford segment that got bumped, and never aired...

Let me first say that I have really liked Maria Bamford for a while now, having discovered her on RU-vid as a below-the-radar phenom being both funny & ferociously honest with her life's story. That said... at the end, the way the camera pans, I love seeing the interior of the theater. I haven't been there since before the post-Letterman renovations & the occasional shots of the ceiling, when Stephen talks to God, show some of the details revealed since the work, exposing of that marvelous dome & adding of the lights. Maybe we can make lemonade from the lemons with this virus? If the audience is to be more distanced, maybe we can have some more visuals with more (portable) camera action in & around the theater. AND can I get a ticket ~ even an old "stand-by" like I did before?

She reminds me of young Katherine Hepburn who drank way too much coffee.

I've loved her since... well, since we thought her persona was an act. Love her to pieces. She's going to be adorable when she's 80.

I love that we're embracing mental illness and making jokes about it. That's what I do, but I'm not quite as funny as these two. In the days since the pandemic began, Steve has been extremely helpful for me, making lite of the foibles of our institutions. Making people laugh is so important. Thank you.

I know her most from Adventure Time. =) She's a great comedian, very open about dealing with severe mental illness, and while she doesn't always succeed (see: mental illness), she's a wonder to watch. =)

@2:45, do we hear a woman who exists in the present, but also co-exists in the present 3 miles ahead, both are doing their makeup waiting on lights and traffic, thus proving that most traffic jams are caused by women drivers who don't go when the light turns green? Can we have Trump set up a task force to study that phenomena? Maybe get a supreme court justice on the panel?

Along the lines of worse mental health care I feel like I don't have anything that tops my husbands experience. For reference, he's now seeking out ADHD testing which has become very difficult to set an appointment for, but was previously considered to be very likely for rapid cycling bipolar disorder (those two are often mistaken for each other when it comes down to basic symptoms). While asking for confirmation on bipolar disorder testing my husband spoke to the psychiatrist who told him that their facility "didn't like to diagnose people with that" so he was instead going to be on paper having borderline personality disorder saying "it's like a lesser form of bipolar". When we told our new psychiatrist and therapists this after moving they were horrified by this. They told us they are definitely not greater and lesser versions of the same disorder and he could've been seriously hurt if he was prescribed the wrong medication for something he didn't have. As we later found out, the reason why that facility refused to give out bipolar diagnosis was because a large part of their government funding to treat the impoverished region it was in (southern West Virginia) was to make sure they didn't diagnose more people than the government wanted with anything that could be used to receive disability benefits. At this time my husband has decided that despite not really having any chance of being able to work probably ever with multiple medical problems, he will not be seeking out disability because he would be put on medicare instead of medicaid and would no longer be able to receive the medications and medical treatment he needs.

Maria is absolutely amazing. So glad to see her going strong. As for the folks at NAMI, they know the stats on mental health professionals who also take prescribed psychotropic meds. Seroquel doesn't rule you out! You help in so many ways!!

I had a therapist write an actual prescription for a Bible. I didn't schedule a followup but got billed for being a no-show!

I don't have a definitive list or anything, but if I could only choose to save one adorably insane woman from a burning building of insane women, I think Maria Bamford would top the list. Can you imagine stand up without insane people? The horror...

omg, that last bit about Stephen's therapist - that's exactly how my first therapist was like! Like a robot. That's why it's good to "shop around" (for some that might have been perfect!) and not give up on therapy, as all in all it was the best thing that I decided to do.
