#beautiful was already in the Top 20 before the music video arrived. Once the video premiered and people saw it was basically her spinning around in a barn while Miguel sat in a car to disguise how much taller Mariah is comparatively, interest in the song dipped. Plus, their chemistry was lacking during live performances. She was always seated in one area and he was always placed farther away from her. It was a creative choice that didn't promote further interest. Obsessed didn't chart higher in part because the video isn't as dynamic as TMB. It's basically a vanity photoshoot. All her videos post TMB have relied way too much on her beauty, which worked better during her youth in the 90s. It could've been funnier and played off the sharp lyrics. Her rapper look wasn't that convincing/well executed. Mariah's most successful songs tend to center around an optimistic love or nostalgic longing. Sassier, biting diss tracks are hit or miss for Mariah's brand.

i completely agree with this. at the time this video was released there was already alot of hype and many nonmariah fans loved it... then the video got released and so many comments from non-fans people saying they didn;t want to see her nude on a motorbike. if she chose to do a visual video aka beyonce style. i have no doubts this would've been a number 1 song.
