She usually does that when going to hit whistles or super high notes but when she does that she is actually pushing her ear piece in her ear to hear herself better as performing in big arenas its difficult to hear yourself especially when hitting high notes. But over the years she got so used to doing it , so with pr without an earpiece she does it loll. it's like a reflex action she does it all the time without realising and now it has become her iconic move. As you can see she sings with not only her soul and lungs but also with her hands. Pointing up when she is going for a high belt, fluttering her fingers when doing really fast runs.... mariah is just epic.
