Mimi’s range is way wider than Ari’s, it’s clear that Mariah is the inspiration of the next generations, so for me, Mariah did a better job in 1998, her tone during the Butterfly Era was gorgeous, she was hitting the whistles easily and flawlessly! 🦋
@@Fishriah_Ari yeah, I know, but Mariah could go as low as the second octave and as high as the seventh while she was on tour, while all the drama during the butterfly era was happening, so for me there’s a huge difference between them, specially considering the emotional status of Mimi…
@@Fishriah_Ari a good strategy if i dare to think, because Mariah went on tour a lot, it really costed her voice, made many live performances which demanded so much of her… so I guess Ari is smart and I love both of ‘em, sorry if I couldn’t made it clear before 🤍
@@Fishriah_Ari I think she became more of aware of now of how it can damage her voice in the long run. It's a good thing, to be honest. Belting is not the only good thing about how you can determine a great singer. And I'm happy that she's not doing it that much nowadays and she's being careful and mindful of her voice.
Low notes: Mariah easily Ariana's lower register improved a lot, she has really solid lows for soprano, but Mariah is much better, her voice is much deeper than Ari's so it even makes sense. Mid Belts: Mariah Ariana's mid belts got a lot stronger with better support, but still not on Mariah's level. Upper Belts: Ariana Ariana's ease is unbelievable and her technique here is also ok, Mariah may has better technique but not enough ease and consistency like Ariana Falsetto+Head Voice: Ariana Ariana's falsetto is best in music industry right now, her and Xtina's. Mariah's head voice is also beautiful but upper register is Ariana's thing Whistles: Mariah Do I need really explain? Mariah is queen of whistles, Ariana is princess of whistles Ariana is slowly coming into her prime right now, she barely performed these last 2 years, which is such a shame because Positions is amazing album that deserved much more. This battle could've been more interesting if there were more examples for Ariana. Hopefully AG7 era will be full of concent.
@@javonlester5522 she can support down to F#3 and her consistent is G#3 and she's slowly starting to be consistent with G3, I think for high placed soprano like her are her lows solid right now.
@@johnbtt wdym? I mean she still sounds almost the same before. Her low notes and whistles got a bit better but her lows still lacks projection and power, volume. Why would I be upset tho I'm actually excited to see her in her prime when she's in her 30's.
2 totally different singers. A chest singer w/ nodules vs a heady mix singer without nodules. I'd say the mixed high notes & head voice goes to Ariana Grande. The lows, chest dominate belting voice & whistles goes to Mariah Carey.
@@dayzour123 no, Mariah use chest voice up to F#5, on good day she can go up to G#5, A5(remember around F#5 is sopranos' second bridge)!! Side affect of her technique is she can't sing good highnotes if she had health issue and her voice get lower as she age ( for example patti can high real high eventhough she really old bcz she use mix voice instead of chest voice )
@@phucnhahuynh4477 the human voice can not go That high n chests those are facts the voice naturally mix mariah has ability to use more chest ratio when comes to mix her mix voice Is a even balance
@@takemyhand1988 im telling you there are 3 types of ways to mix heady mix balance mix and chesty it depends on the ratio of how much of head and chest the singer is using the difference is how the singer approaches the notes
@@domzkynic3691 Lol please. You lambs need to stop being ignorant and hating on Ariana just because she isn't as good as Mariah (tbh, currently, she's actually a tad bit better; Mariah's nodules have really been taking a toll on her voice. At least she's getting better with some rest)
@@domzkynic3691 She doesn't sound like a 12-year-old in the least. Her voice is youthful (but not as girly as you're implying) and, in all fairness, so is Mariah's because both singers happen to be light-lyric sopranos. Mariah's tone doesn't make her better than Ariana, in case you didn't know. Tone is subjective. It's her vocal technique and success in the music industry that make her more iconic (vocally and music-wise) than Ariana.
I love them both but Mariah is blessed with one if not the best tone to ever be recorded...the range ,the highs, the lows ,the technic ...are alll good features but her tone is what set her apart , her voice gives me the feeling of a warm hug ,like am floating in a cloud eating coton candy 😁 it feels 3 dimentional , serounding your body and soul ...ariana in the other hand has a very nice voice ,with very strong and clear upper belts that feels like a straight line, like an arrow piercing your soul, a celine dion kinda structure and tone.
Mariah’s the blueprint, but let’s not underestimate ariana. The growth she’s shown in the last 3 years was crazy and it’s showing no signs of slowing down. She’s also apparently taking broadway vocal lessons again for her upcoming role in Wicked. I’m so excited to see how much more she’s going to improve.
@@kingmiller1982 you don't know what you are talking about. Don't be a blind fan. Ari did really good in high belts and falsetto. Mariah did good in belt and chest voice. They have very different voice types so they do best in what they can.
IMO Lows : Mariah definitely the air on butterfly’s lows omg Mid belts : Mariah i looove the tone and the rasp on those belts it sounds so good Upper belts : Ariana by far it sounds so clear and with the new slight rasp it’s so good Head voice : Ariana too idk it sounds more clear and more freedom Whistles : Mariah ofc!!!
@@DaydreamCarey1234 Chest dominant is the only way you can belt without mixing.Chest dominant is not full chest voice but not even a mix.Mix Voice is not belt its a mix..ppl who mix are not belter but a mixer.
@@bestvocalsbyvocalists849 no. Belt is already a mix. There are 3 types of mix. Chesty mix which had more chest than head. Heady mix had more head than chest. Balanced mix had the same amount of chest and head.
@@DaydreamCarey1234 there is no such thing like chesty mix..Its chest dominant(not full chest, not mix)chesty has more chest ratios than head? You cannot detect head in chest dominant..you can only detect head in mix voice(balance, heady, masked) And there is 4 type of mix Balance,Heady,Masked and Falsetto Mix...Again there is no full chest voice in chest dominant not even head approach..Chest dominant was compressed cords(really tight)which no falsetto or heady approach will happen and its result is chest resonant which made it sound mix..There is no such thing like chesty mix..
Mariah still wins for me. Her tone, artistry, lows, agillity, power, vibrato, whistles, and resonance dstood out the most in here. Considering Mariah'a vocals were very tired in here.
I can't give the edge to ariana here. Everything sounds so heavily pitched corrected, and dubbed to increase her volume over the instrumentation, vs mariah who's clips were recorded with a potato, but still come off more impressive IMO.
@@TheQueenOfLambily in your defense I dont think ari can contend with pre 2000s mariah. Thats not necessarily bad though. Arianna is obviously an excellent singer, but theres a certain stability and support I listen for that I haven't heard from her since victorious Era.
I hope Ariana gets even better than where she's currently at. Mariah is dominating the lows and chest (mid belts) and the iconic whistles, but Ariana is progressively better and healthier with the high belts and head voice/falsettos. I wish they make music together in the future. Some Butterfly (album) type music.
@@anniescorfano 1. I don't want to make any assumptions here but you don't seem Asian. 90-95% of actual Asians I've met disagree with this narrative that was, in fact, started on Twitter by non-Asians because a lot of non-Asian people don't seem to know how real Asians look and are just stereotyping. 2. She didn't "quit" music; she's just taking a break because she wants to pursue other things. Is that really wrong?
@@gooddool429 I 100% hold her accountable for that. While she stopped engaging in blackfishing years ago, she is, indeed, guilty of it, contrary to what most other Arianators think. But this person did not mention that, which clearly shows that people are just blindly believing what some bored individual/individuals posted on Twitter. A real Asian would know that this is a case of stereotyping. Olivia Rodrigo is an example of a celeb who is of actual Asian descent and Ariana looks nothing like her.
It’s obvious that Ariana’s technique is getting better overtime and she’s getting close to her prime so her voice will mature and be darker but she can maintain to keep good support on her belts
@@WhitneyElizabethHouston. sounds just as robotic to me if not more so but hey it’s whatever, neither of them need the tuning to begin with but as long as gp can’t hear it then producers/artists are always gonna use it sadly
Interesting to see that Ariana, though possessing adequately healthy vocal chords, has rasp that seems to be creeping in her upper belts (Mainly in E5/F5, and even in her D5 notes here), unlike pre-2018 where she would virtually have no rasp even throughout her belting range. I feel that since Ariana is such a light soprano voice, the more she pushes for "power" the more her rasp will creep in. Mariah's case at 28 was... As every lamb will resoundingly echo... REST!! 1997-1999 is when we needed Restriah? But give Mariah credit for still giving iconic vocal moments and an impeccable tone despite overworked vocal chords. One last thing... I have yet to hear a singer replicate Mariah's Tone.. But there are plenty of girlies who replicate Ariana's tone pretty well, however, much credit to Ariana for being the current pop singer who is unmatched in belting ease in that arena.
@@radipranaja5763 I agree to a certain extent. Maybe on occasion its intentional and on some it isn't. She could be leaning into it for all we know, unless she herself has stated that she does it intentionally. imo, I think she may benefit from embracing a more naturally raspy tone in her upper belts because now her belts have more emotiveness to them. But my observance still holds true that there is a significant amount of rasp in SOME of her upper belts that were virtually not present pre-2018? (Definitely not in 2014)
As an arianator&lambily i really like both of them vocal, ofc mariah is better but ariana have a very significant improvement compare to herself in the past😭😭😭💖
What's crazy is almost all of Ari's vids are in amazing, clear, quality and she sounds beautiful BUT when Mariah comes in with lower quality videos, not only is it still very crystal clear it's also very powerful, she comes in like a force! Mariah is a freakin legend!
y’all still comparing them? they’re completely different singers with very different styles and techniques, singing in very different eras. they don’t sounds alike, and never have. they’re both amazing vocalists who have a real appreciation for each other…
I agree there’s no comparisons, but It’s clear as broad daylight that MC is an influence for Ariana. Her vocal style screams Mariah. There’s nothing wrong with that.
@@VdiMusicGaming it doesn't matter if she's on key, what matters is how the notes were executed as a whole. Ariana supported these notes better overall than Mariah
This I love her embracing the rasp in higher belts you can hear how there not as like cookie cutter as her younger self they sound like she found her style 😍❤️
I personally prefer a heavier voice but Aris voice is undeniable. She’s so talented so you can’t really compare. Mariah is the blueprint, legend and goes everywhere with her voice- I don’t think anyone can compare to her although Aris voice is beautiful
MARIAH is my favorite. I absolutely Love her voice. She's more than a singer to me. She's an inspiration since vision of Love and my idol since 1990. An amazing woman and artist. LAMB FOREVER. 🦋 P.s but Ariana has a beautiful voice too. I like her very much.
Definitely the best vocalist of their generation and there’s no one that can prove it wrong Mariah’s low notes are so good but what about the Save Your Tears performance? Ariana’s tone was so deep and well achieved that I can only say both have what it takes to actually be considered the best of the best.💜
ariana grande has the healthier technique and vocal health in this age range. Ariana grande is close to mastering her voice In every register and she's so careful with how she uses it. Mariah still went on tour and did promo even tho she wasn't in a great condition she overworked herself IMO.
Ariana is not even close to mastering her voice in every register. Her lows are still underdeveloped, chest voice is extremely underdeveloped, and her head voice is underdeveloped as well.
@@Sttephy30 she mostly uses head voice its just airy and light so people mistaken it for falsetto. Her lows aren't underdeveloped their actually great for a light lyric soprano and plus her voice sits naturally in the upper 4th octave A4-eb5 is considered her midbelts. she mixes on a expert level her chest voice is perfectly fine she doesn't need a chest belt like every other try hard singer. Ariana is a expert vocalist. Imagine singing 100 shows back to back with crazy level vocals and coming out with perfectly healthy vocal Cords and a better techique. Who else?
@@Imadeyoumad288 Ariana in 2022 isn't as good as Mariah in 1996 but we aren't really doing that, are we? I love them both and it's quite clear that Ariana is influenced by Mariah so...
Mariah is better in every register. The only note that Ariana was better on 28 years was the G5 on upper belts. Every other note we can hear only Mariah, even in bad quality audios. This woman is incredible
I've been getting a vibe that Ariana's real tone is 1:45 and she just switches to this more thinner tone to suit her genre. She had a live performance from 2012 when she was singing Mariah's All i want for Christmas, and that was her real tone. Might be wrong but i love both of em 😍😍😍
Can I just say I’m obsessed with 3:49 😍😍😍 That rasp on the word “baby” is just everything, it’s so eargasmic. I’ve always thought it was lo key reminiscent of Mariah and her butterflyriah rasp
Lows: Mariah no contest Belts: Ariana (they were tied until like C5/C#5 but after that definitely Ariana. Honestly, Mariah was just overly raspy, off pitch, and too constricted/tense here) Hv: Tie Whistles: Mariah Now based on the categories alone Mariah took more technically, but in general tbh I think Ariana took this as a better vocalist overall. Ns but she just was in a better state vocally than Mariah was at 28. The consistency and control was lacking but I will say when butterflyriah was on, *SHE WAS ON* If the whole era was filled with performances like if only you knew/somewhere over the rainbow, to be real, and chain of fools it would’ve been over for Ariana Lmao
Mariah is one of the best female vocalist of all time as in in the top 5. What do you expect? Of course she wins this. Ariana Grande is a great vocalist regardless but Mariah is one of those exceptional vocalists.
There's no comparison, just my opinion. Mariah is the original and every one maybe not every one wanted to sound like her. Those that came after might refine it more but just like antique and precious things the original is always better. Moral to this story is find your own sound...
why did u use opnlñy vevo presentation for ariana and for mariah all the performances of that year + the tour? pretty unfair and there are some misslables notes on F5 for mariah and ariana
to think that at 28 mariah was at the depth of her butterfly era ... makes you think of the relation between the control ari has over her music and her musicality and liricism.
Ariana improved so much ! Love the new weight on her voice and her little rasp ! Lows: Mariah Mid belt : Mariah High belts : I think Ariana has more ease here ( Mariah F5 and F#5 were incredibly good here tho 😳, very potent ) Falsetto/Whistles: Mariah duh
it's clear that Ariana's voice is healthier. She wins in most high belts. But Mariah was great with what she had at that moment. That tone is still unmatched
Wow! I actually consider this era of Mariah as one of her worst vocal moments. But I didn't even think that it could still match Ariana, considering that Ari has no vocal issues. Wow, Mariah!
@@emekajohnson2630 Ariana still has a weak chest voice w/ no weight. Her doing over 200 shows, should've made her chest voice stronger but it hasn't tbh. That's bc Ariana really doesn't sing in full chest, she stays in heady mix, which is what allows her voice to do many shows. Ariana would never be able to sing HEAVY chest.
@@Sttephy30 How would you know? Also listen to her at age 28 compare to Mariah? If not singing chest voice and restraining from belting is preserving her voice then what’s the problem? Mariah vocals are extremely fragile, she has said it herself. I mean, look at her at Ariana age, she sounds a mess and her performances were inconsistent. Ariana technique is working for her, the evidence is right there.
This would’ve been more matched if there were other performances besides the vevo one Low notes:Mariah Mid Belts:Tie Upper Belts:Ariana Hv/Falsetto:Ariana Whistles: Mariah and it’s not even close😭
The first low note you showed for Ari was an E3, not a Bb3, and I think the first low note for Mariah was a C3 not a Bb2 but I may be wrong on that one
It amazes me how majority of Mariah's clips are so low. I love Ariana people are always putting artist against each other and the artist are not like that they respect each other. People if you have a favorite artist good but stop comparing them to others just because they are your favorite. Everyone take care and God bless 🙏🏽
Arianna is awesome but Mariah makes her sound basic. Nonetheless I love both. It is almost like you compare by similarities and Mariah is the greater of the two. Maybe Arianna is as distinct to me.
@@TakaiJamari i mean not her LOWEST, but like it’s kinda obvious that ari had her biggest growth vocally from thank u next to positions. Mariah had her (at the time) biggest “downfall” from daydream to butterfly.
Is this really considered Ari’s peak lol? The rasp implies she can’t reach the higher notes as easily as previous in her career. I think sweetener tour is more thought of as her peak.
If I have to make an objective judgment... I simply can't make an objective judgment... When Ari is involved, I think as an arianator and I always support Ari!
its so hard to compare because these are both gifted women singing songs in two completely different generations. with that comes different styles of songs, singing, runs etc. if they were both the same age in the same era of music it would be an easier comparison. i heavily believe if ariana was 28 in the 90's, she would produce very similar songs to mariah and hence they would be on par in terms of musicality/wonderful runs/great head voice. despite this, i think they're both the best female singers within that generation, mariah being the best in the 90's and ariana being the best in 2022.
This! Because of precisely this, Mariah wins. I will evaluate them again until I hear Ariana in a similar condition of her music with minimal to zero editing. I will give credit to Ari’s upper register because she does not break as Mariah does. Mariah overworked herself due to what happened with mr tomato, I hope she is in a much better place now
@@tyrell423 100% live with 10 layers of autotune on her voice 🤣 deal with it, I’m not even a Mariah fan, but we have to be realistic here, the comparison isn’t fair (although even with autotune and edited lives Mariah beats Ariana)
@@work1343 so now you know more than the director of the vevo 💀 and if anything wasn’t fair it’s how the videos of Mariah are from one whole year + tour while aris is from one series😂
Although Mariah is the queen of Whistle register, you have to admit that Ariana is more consistent with it. She even has even done a live performance of a whole chorus in whistle register that she slightly enunciates on(well almost as good as she normally enunciates LMAO). Mariah's Whistles are a result of her nodules.

@@noncatholiccatholicrat6309 Saying “yikes” and “educate” doesn’t make you sound any smarter than your 2 cent take 😭 you want to talk about being consistent?
